The tracks that stand out as 'chilled' music are great!
Not enough of them. Many fillers, some i hadn't heard before, and for good reason, they either were not 'chilled' music or/and not easy to listen to at all. This really should be 2 discs, and be done with the unknown and unchilled.

The title "We started nothing" is somewhat of a lie. It is undisbutable that the Ting Tings have a unique sound, that is immediately recognisable on the radio and stands out difiantly against the crowd. The CD, therefore, is unsurprisingly not mainstream. The tracks are definitely a long way from the usual indie rock that reverberates through the stereo these days all too frequently. The Ting Tings do a good job at continuing there distinct style throughout the album which is good, although repeated listening is not recommended, and not for the totally overquoted "that's not my name!" (that I for some reason seem to have been able to fit into every sentence since hearing the album). The problem I have is that after hearing lots of times, the songs ... Read More:

I'm going to make this short and sweet as I don't want to waste too much time, but in the time between albums 2 and 3, it seems to me that Portishead have simply spent the years collecting every single annoying noise that they can find, and slapping it together in an effort to create "music".

Don't get me wrong, I've been a Portishead fan since the start, and regularly listen to self-titled, and PNYC, but THIS! I'm disappointed, sorely so.

I've liked Madonna on and off since she started in the 80's with 'Holiday'. I bought most of her early stuff when it was still sold on vinyl but for some strange reason stopped buying her music when it went on to CD format. Since then, some of her music grabbed me, some didn't, but I've always admired her ability to transform herself with the times. I think Madonna has the Marmite factor - you either love her or you hate her! Anyway,I happened to be listening to the radio on the way to work one morning and heard '4 minutes' being played. I recognised Timberlake's voice and assumed it was his new song, no problem, I like his music and was really getting into this song when I recognised Madge's voice. I happen to work in a supermarket so I thought I'd check this ... Read More:

If you have heard Hold Your Colour you know what Pendulum are about - Drum and Bass meets Guitar based rock. On first listen this outting sounded to me like a noisier version of the first album. But once you give yourself a chance to get used to whats going on, this album shows these guys really hitting their straps. Less time spending demonstrating their ability to use the technology they are working with, more time just ripping into the stuff they have written. I finished listening to this for the third time, then went and ordered the special edition. Just buy it!

Alison Goldfrapp is not one for standing still. Her turn-of-the-century debut, Felt Mountain, was a masterpiece of downtempo yearning, 2003's Black Cherry a synthpop-disco extravaganza, and 2005's Supernature a mix of electronica and stick-in-your-head indie. Seventh Tree, her musical vehicle's fourth studio outing, shows more clearly than ever her intention for reinvention.

A stripped down, chary mien, Seventh Tree is a rare journey through the mind of the woman known for refusing to reveal even her age.

It kicks off, or rather eases in, with Clowns, a gentle, strummy treat, complete with wispy Vashti Bunyan-esque vocals. Immediately there is a feel that we're not in for the same disco and glam pop beats of the past.

A great album, all high-octane Scissor Sister-esque camp one moment and full-of-itself grandeur the next.

"Go-Go" and "Boyfriend" sound like True Blue-era Madonna, having a mix with Opportunities-era Pet Shop Boys, whilst "10,000 Nights" and "Fascination" could have been on the last SS's album.

There's also a Grease soundtrack / rockabilly thing going on, which resurrects the shades of Aqua and <> The Cartoons, but there's a great sense of genuine fun and songwriting nous which elevates this album way beyond any of that.

The male vocalist has a kind of twang to his delivery that put me in mind of the lead vocalist of The Tubes ('Fee' Waybill) - no bad thing, in my book.

I didn't expect to like this, to be honest, ... Read More:

I bought this album because I loved 'Black and Gold'. However, I was very disappointed. That track and the first one on the album are the only ones worth listening to. Sam Sparrow whitters on and on throughout the rest of the album and it is real rubbish. Don't waste your money. Sorry Sam, but you have to do better than this.

This album has taken me by surprise. I didn't buy it for me but for the other half. Truth is though, many tracks have caught my ear and I've been playing it sneakily by myself too when no-one else is around, but don't tell her will you?!

You see, I wasn't really expecting an album displaying such a diverse range of electronic influence. Being a fan of Jarre and Kraftwerk, there is more than a nod and a wink to these classic artists here, as well as more contemporary influences such as Groove Armada and even The Streets.

All in all a great album. 4 stars!

If you put Blondie, dub reggae, punk, new wave, disco, dancehall, electro, pop and ska in a blender and pressed the button, you'd come out with something approaching Santogold's debut. If that sounds horribly arty and pretentious, though, don't fear; this is also a brilliant pop album, topped off with buckets of Brooklyn cool courtesy of Santi's Ronettes-meets-Debbie Harry voice. There's great hooks aplenty and you'll be humming these songs all summer. Yeah, okay, it's so undoubtedly trendy I expect to hear it the next time I go in Topshop, but Santogold is so much more than your average NME-endorsed chancer and far far more than (as some have claimed) a weaker version of her pal M.I.A.- and if you don't know who that is, you ought to search for 'Kala' and add it to your basket ...
