A truly great hidden gem. Packed full of feeling and funk. Being an ardent BB fan I bought the original vinyl as an early 20-something and was blown away all those years ago. It seems I've been waiting forever (no pun intended) for it to be re-released and finally it has arrived all 'cleaned up' complete with his second unreleased album 'Bambu' and bonus tracks too. I am in heaven! Seriously, as our American cousins would all too often remark this IS a genuinely 'seminal'/'awesome' work beautifully re-packaged and presented that even a cynical 'oldie but moldy' like me reared on gatefolds and free posters et al was suitably impressed, and all at a bargain price. Ignore the 1*, (as they say you always get one!)at the very least it is 4*, just ... Read More:

This is not his best, but it's not as bad as some make out. There are a couple of tracks, God being the main one , that I just don't get. However in 21 tracks there will be a couple of mis hits.I saw the tour for this album and to be frank, it sounded much better live.Enjoyable, but far from his best

In my earlier review of the first Raconteurs album, I said that I couldn't pick an outstanding track because they were all equally good. That effort was a solid and concise album - 10 short songs, plenty of ideas, and essentially it was veering towards pop rock. It sounded very different to The Raconteurs that I first heard at Leeds Festival in 2006. That band was awesome - big sound, tight performance, audacious musicianship... and I realise now that they must have been playing a lot of songs from this album, though it was clearly far from being released.

Consolers of the Lonely keeps a lot of the pop sensibilities that the earlier effort possessed (vocal harmonies, singalong choruses), but it is very much more rooted in traditional American rock ... Read More:

The first I heard these tunes were when Nickelback supported Bon Jovi on a concert - completely blew me away. I actually thought the energy and songs almost out done the main show. The album is very energetic from the moment go. Some ballads like Photograph, Far Away and Savin' Me are great and slows the the pace a little, but the vocals are powerful and keeps the listener glued.
The album is great and a superb follow-up to their last album. I really can't wait to see them live, I will recommend you do the same, start buy listening to this album. Awsome.

What were Radiohead to do? They can't please all the people all the time, can they?

So, were they too keep the Bendsphiles moaning about "pretentious, tuneless noises, blah blah blah" or turn their backs on Kid-A-philes "far-out experimental techno wizadry"?

Unbelievably, Radiohead seem, at least to this ear, to have kept both camps happy. Maybe I'm biased, short of Pablo Honey, I consider all the albums to be quite magnificent in their own ways, and this is no different.

Once the techno-ish intro of 15 Step has finished (where, I believe, many of the post-OK Computer refuseniks stopped listening to write a 1-star review), In Raibows delivers the accessibility of earlier albums without losing the soundscapes of the later ones. ... Read More:

Sadly someone obviously suggested to Robert Plant that this would be a good idea....recording a (mostly) countryesque album with Alison Krauss. They were wrong!! I have no problem with Plant (or anyone else for that matter) trying new things, but please..... this was a bad idea that should have stayed just that.... an idea!! Why on earth so many people feel the need to heap praise on this album is beyond me - it has no redeming qualities to my ears whatsoever - even if Robert Plant is involved.......come to think of it that old story of the Emporer's new clothes comes to mind!!

If you loved the Kings first two albums, with their raw southern rock songs and spacey ballads then avoid this like the plague. The Kings have gone done a road that very few come back from, they've done a U2. What I mean is they have written an album for the sole purpose of playing the songs in large stadium venues and festivals. Just ask Coldplay or the Foo Fighters if this song writing technique works to gain credibility. I think the answer is NO.

The problem is they have dropped everything that made them special and just become another sell-out rock band. The synths and Brian Eno esque guitar wailings are just awful and really dated, the songs have no direction and have lost their punch. But worst of all this album just drags on and on to the point where ... Read More:

The voice is the first thing you notice. The early poetic renditions on such classics as "Suzanne", "Sisters of Mercy" and "Famous Blue Raincoat" are presented in a voice that is deadpan but not as gruff as in later years. This was at a period when he was a well kept secret and with a style and presentation that not everyone took to. Move onto disc 2 and you notice how the voice deepens and the songs become bigger. One thing that Cohen has never failed to deliver is quality songs with curious stories to tell. He has an almost hymn-like or gospel touch on a lot of his work, usually enhanced by superb backing singers and wondrous musicians and arrangements.

I move between both of his periods with equal ease, but I find the latter stuff more appealing these days. ... Read More:

As a long-time fan of Journey, I was a bit worried about this release. But like other fans, I was bowled over by the new material, by the superb new vocalist Arnel Pineda, and by the re-recording of some Journey classics with their new singer. Pineda's voice is very like Steve Perry's - Perry has a purer vocal and a slightly greater range, but both are great voices, so comparing is not really an issue. Pineda makes the new material his own and the band plays superbly. He also handles the older material with some style - Journey have their classic sound back and it's an exciting prospect for the future. This is a smart and confident release from Journey - they clearly have faith in their new singer. This is a really good album which confirms that faith - I recommend it.

Isn't this facility for reviewing albums? People seem to be getting caught up in the politics and forgetting the point. This album contains, in my opinion, some of the best songs of the last couple of decades. I don't agree that it's disjointed or that it's essential to listen to individual Radiohead albums in their entirety. These people must be so disappointed when they go to see the band play live and have to sit through a set full of songs taken from different albums.
