Berlitz definitely write the best phrasebooks, this one is more than suitable for holiday makers and language students alike. What makes this a great little book is the arrangement of different sections from accommodation, eating out, health and the food glossary. The excellent graphic presentations on each page of the book are well supplemented with pertinent and naturalistic phrases and questions. Berlitz phrasebooks stand out from most others that I have looked at, which are often just words on a page. Berlitz brings the language to life and the excellent arrangement of the book makes it easy to find necessary information very quickly. I recommend this book to people who want to get by in Spanish on their holidays.

The recordings are made with English in one channel (right) and Spanish in the other (left). Every English word or phrase is then repeated in Spanish from the other speaker (twice, with a pause between each for you to repeat it). So either the reviewer had their balance knob turned just to the one channel, or they had a dodgy cassette machine. My CD version works fine and it seems a very effective way of learning. I would still suggest listening the first few times with the booklet in front of you (not in your car!) so that you can visualise the spelling of the words you are trying to say, but thereafter you can make valuable use of that lost time sitting in traffic jams by practicing your Spanish vocabulary and pronunciation.

If you are in a job like myself where you spend a great deal of time in the car, there is no better way to learn a foreign language. I have also now taken a GCSE in Spanish and can safely say this course, 1-3 will take you well beyond that level. I would also recommend taking the Michel Thomas course, eight CD'S. Learn Spanish in your car will teach you a lot of vocabulary and if you listen to it over and over it will sink in, in a way no other course will be able to teach you. With the Michel Thomas course you will learn the structure of the language i.e how to conjugate verbs in a simplified manner and without using jargon. I believe with these two courses you will be given a foundation in the language that will end up being cheaper than constantly ... Read More:

I have been listening to these CDs in my car, and it has made a massive difference to me. I spoke no Spanish originally, just English. Now, I can say lots of things and understand it to. I do not think the Spanish bit is spoken really fast, it is at a perfectly acceptable speed. I listen to one lesson for about a week everyday in my car and say the Spanish bit out aloud. After a while you say it before they do and you are on your way to speaking Spanish. I got on quite well in Mexico after only the first couple of CDs. Ecuador in April, lets see how I do!

I really have to force myself to put this CD on in the car. A fun way to learn it certainly isn't. Basically a woman with an American accent says a phrase in English then a Spanish man repeats it in Spanish twice. That's it, over and over. The word "dry" doesn't even come close.

after reading some reviews i was reluctant to buy this. but whilst i have been learning spanish the vocab has been fairly easy but the conjugation and meaning of verbs was not sinking in. this cd has helped to put the bones into the language. yes it is a bit repetetive but what else can it be? all learning has a mundane but necessary aspect and this is. but it works, you learn quickly and even if you switch off mentally for a while, you can easily slide back into it. after only 2 listens i tested myself and was amazed how much i had learned. the omission of the second person plural is inconvenient but no big deal really.
