Having just heard the CD, I am warmed by the quality of ALL the tracks, the singing is beautiful and sung so professionally. If you are looking for a traditional Carol CD, then I would definately recommend this one,

This is a music from the another dimension. Absolute clearity of the mind. A fragile balance you are looking... A touch of something beautiful that's uncomparable bigger than you. Simple, but in very different way. Must have!

This has been eagerly awaited after hearing the Ebene perform the Debussy and the Ravel live at this summer's Salzburg Festival. They are a young group of musicians who also appear on the European jazz scene. This brings to their playing a buzz which may be linked to their ability to improvise freely. However, when playing these pieces there is a discipline evident in their interpretation as well. Hear also their interpretation of the first three Barok Quartets and subline live recordings of Haydn.

My wife (for whom I bought it) says that this CD set is very restful and soothing and I have to say that I quite like to hear the singing in the background whilst I slave away at the computer. And, of course, the great thing is that we got two CDs for about the price of one. Excellent!

The quality of the accompanyments and the production quality are outstanding. This is undoubtedly the best Welsh Male Voice choir recording in my collection.

Neither work is particularly well known, even among enthusiasts for Vaughan Williams music. Don't let that put you off. Both are original and gripping works and Sancta Civitas is an extraordinary piece unlike any other work I know. It is the work in which the composer found the unique colours and dissonance that would lead to works like Job and the Fourth Symphony and is, perhaps, even finer than those great works. It is certainly original. The only previous recording that came anywhere near to doing the work justice was that conducted by Sir David Willcocks. This new account is in the same class and has the benefit of a superb modern recording that the earlier record cannot match. I genuinely believe that Sancta Civitas is one of Vaughan Williams' ... This was the first time I had heard the Libera group as I was sent the CD as a gift. To begin with I really didn't care for some of the music - remember I hadn't heard this style of choral singing before and it took a bit of getting used to, but I sat down on Saturday and listened right through and by the time it was finished I was hooked. I loved the setting of Bach's Air on a G String in particular, and then right at the end the performances of Blake's Little Lamb and the In Paradisum are exquisite. This is a very fine choir matching in quality the Westminster Cathedral choristers, and I really can't recommend the disk too highly.

There are now many releases in the EMI 'Great Recordings of the Century' series, and this has to be one of the best I've heard. The three pieces on this CD date from the 1960's and all have benefited from recent remastering. The 'Cello Concerto' is a 1965 recording performed by Jacqueline du Pre (who else would you expect?) and remains today, more than 40 years on, the standard to which all other performances of this work are measured. I'm sure I am amongst many others who regret not having seen such a gifted musician play live. I've seen several performances of Elgar's cello concerto, and always find that the best are when the soloist totally immerses him/herself into the music and brings out the emotions from somewhere deep ...
