Brendel sets the mark for other performers for seven of Beethoven's finest piano sonatas. Although brendel sticks to the notes, he still manages to leave his mark on the music. recommended !

I really enjoyed this CD and I did find the music relaxing. However as someone who meditates regularly I do not think that it is music that would be used to meditate to. One can sit and relax to this CD but if you want to meditate this CD, in places, can be quite stirring and would not lend itself to an actual meditation practice.

This is such a beautiful recording. Alfred Brendel is the best pianist in my opinion and he once again interpreted these pieces extremely well. It's truly relaxing to listen to this CD.

This is a great introduction to Mozart and some nice musical masterpieces that will just help you unwind! However, this CD will not do any better or worse job than anything by Mozart - and I would recommend a collection compiled by Teresa Berganza, Sony. It is affordable and quite extensive.

If you have to invest in a set of Mozart Piano Concertos you could do a lot worse than this offering which teams the unrivalled talents of Alfred Brendel with Neville Marriner and his world famous ASMF, his interpretation is authoritative if not poetic, the famous "Elvira Madigan" rendition here may not be as poetic as say Mitsuku Uchida's interpretation, I suppose it's worth investing in both so you could have 1 for each mood you happen to be in at the time, but like everything else the more you listen to the one version, the less critical you tend to be, and that's what counts.

It is written in the same style as the last 5 piano sonatas, the 9th symphony, the Missa Solemnis and the op.119 and op.126 piano Bagatelles - before he entered the wholly different world of the 5 Late String Quartets. Brendel has described these variations as 'the greatest of all piano works'. He used them as the subject of a lecture entitled 'Does Classical music have to be entirely serious?' - Beethoven combines a great deal of typical raucous humour with more tender and profound reflections.
