Having owned a CD of the highlights of this opera for many years, I was delighted to find that the complete set was still available. I am glad that I finally bought it and it has been a very rewarding experience appreciating the work in its entirety. This, in my opinion, is Baroque opera at its very best. Leclair beautifully combines Italian style aria and recitative with French drama and spectacle. Non specialist listeners such as myself, without a technical knowledge of music will find much to divert and please them here. From the stately overture, through a prologue and five acts, this work is a feast of music and like the best dining there is piquancy, subtlety, variety and sheer invention of the first order.
