I admit to being a great fan of Freddie and the boys, so I was a bit funny about Roger and Brian restarting something called Queen, but on the other hand I am really pleased that they decided to go back to touring. This isn't "old" Queen in any real sense. Several of the tracks are naff to the point of being criminal (which "old" Queen album doesn't have a couple of those?). Its clear that the creative and writing talent has definitely moved on - Freddie and John wrote nearly all the big Queen hits and it shows. And you feel that Brian's hard rock influence has been watered down a little too much. Given the choice of more of this or a Brian May solo effort, I would probably pick Brian every time. Just how did they decide which song should be a single. With perhaps the exception of Wooden Boat, all of these songs could have been a single. All the lads take a turn at singing lead and all take credit for the combined work. A truly incredible feat, for the best selling band in the country to take 10 years off, not only come back but come back better. If this is a refection of what we are to expect in the future I can't wait for the next album

Elbow have written and performed some of the best music this century (IMO). Beautiful ballads & catchy tunes, Favourite Tracks: Fugitive Motel & Grace Under Pressure

Friendly Fires has to be one of the albums of the year. It's not been a great year for fresh stuff. Just roll out dreary old Oasis with the same old same old and then FF appear. It's not anything new but it is exciting for today. You can see that they love what they do. There are not any poor songs on the album so I'll have to discuss the outstanding ones. How about "Paris"? Forward thinking, future going to be great fun stuff! "On Board" fun. Right, forget all this reviewing stuff!! They are great songs that you will want to sing and dance to. End of! Go on, buy it!

I once saw an interview where Chad Kroeger said he asked fans what made How You Remind Me work. People said the chorus, the catchy riffs etc. So basically that's what the man cares about which disheartens me. I bought The Long Road and I really like Someday, but on every album they make 3 or 4 singles and the rest appears to be just filler, something to pad it out to called it an album. Hopefully Nickelback realise their sell out status and make music for the right reasons, as the album title misleads.

I saw Nitin play in Bristol in early November 2008 and he gave the best performance of the 5 times I have seen him. A delicate and sensitive gig, with Nitin mainly playing acoustic guitar, accompanied by some sublime cello playing and indian flute and tabla playing - all mixed with dreamy singing. This album reflects all that. A true concept album - a 45 minute journey through life today. Such a wide variety of influnces - how wrong the last reviewer is! This is a great Nitin album,and I've loved him from the start. Turn it on, lie back on the sofa and let yourself drift away.

A sumptuous box 5 discs which covers pretty much the best of the 2006 tour and forming a pretty good tribute to the late Richard Wright. The main feature discs one and two are CDS of the Gdansk concert with the Baltic Philharmonic concert orchestra. Disc one made up mainly of the `On an island album`, disc two David Gilmours greatest hits with probably the definitive live version of Echo's the seminal Pink Floyd classic. Disc three is the fist of two DVD's this is highlights of the Gdansk concert and a rather good documentary the concert highlights stretch to 100 minutes or so. As a tiny lad in the late 60s I used to love Jake's tv appearances - I loved the sound of his guitar playing and his deadpan delivery and his vocals used to have me in stitches, though I couldn't have understood 99% of the lyrics! Then last year, four decades later, I read an article on the release of Jake's boxed set in Mojo magazine. Straight onto Amazon I ordered myself a copy of the Very Best of Jake Thackray. What a fabulous delight. I have since ordered another five copies which I've sent out to various friends, and here I am on Amazon again, ordering another three copies for further friends. Spreading the word. Jake, you're fab, unique and wonderful. There will never be anyone else like you. Wishing you were here.
