I've tried hard to try and like this album, having gone away from it for a few months and come back to it, but I thought it was terrible on first listen and it's still no better months later. I've been close to throwing it in the bin and that's bad considering LP are (well were) one of my fav bands. I can see what they have tried to do with this release, tried to get a clearer, more traditional rock sound going on, but it just hasn't worked at all. It's as though all the things that make LP brilliant have been stripped away, there's no sincerity in the lyrics, the lyrics themselves are bad, mr hahn has disappeared all together, zero scratch sounds, the interchanging of lines between mike and chester has disappeared, the metal sweeping guitar ... This deserves its 5 star rating with tremendous music and an incredible light show. Gilmour is not what you would describe as a particularly charismatic individual but he is the Floyd in terms of vocals and as for that guitar, could it belong to anyone else - haunting! The production is superb and, other than die hard disciples of the original Sid Barrett Floyd this is what you have to have. Was there ever a better song than Shine On You Crazy Diamond? The Floyd do not engage with you live but, as on disc, they hypnotise and enchant your ears and soul. Buy!

'Hand Built By Robots' is the excellent debut from Newton Faulkner. He plays percussive guitar, but like others of this style who keep instrumental, he manages to put lyrics to his songs and appeals to a wider audience. The whole album is pretty good, but for me a stand out track is 'I Need Something' which always gets me belting out as I sing along. His style is easy to get into and this is great to have on in the background as you're cooking in the kitchen or when you have friends round, it is easy going and inoffensive. If you like this check out Erik Mongrain who plays in a similar style but is instrumental. Like several others I can't say that Orbison was even close to the top of my musical heroes but this package just has the best of everything - cool songs, great setting, tremendous musicianship and a splendid arty film in black and white which captures so much more than can ever be gained by listening to the CD alone. It's amazing to see Bruce Springsteen in total awe of Orbison, to have backing singers including kd lang and to catch a fleeting glimpse of Sylvester Stallone in a spellbound audience. What is absolutely ridiculous though is that this total revelation can be bought for £4.98 from Amazon at the date of this review. Not a bad album, but for me their previous album Ride the Lightning is better, hence 3 stars. In terms of song writing (music more than lyrics) the songs are a little dull and not immediately accessible. Guitar solos are a little random in terms of notes and scales played. Distortion bass starts to get a little boring after hearing the first two Metallica albums, not really doing anything new here. Drums, well we all know Lars isn't the greatest technical drummer around (St Anger has pretty much demonstrated this), but he does the job more or less. Vocals and lyrics are the best thing about MoP, pretty good effort from James, who was still on top of his game here, and perhaps that's why people forgive the musical deficits and give it 5 stars.

Lily Allen has been MIA over the last few years, from the music scene at least. Well 'It's Not Me, It's You' marks her return to music and a the follow up to the huge hit that was 'Alright,Still.' Having broken the States, fronted a chat show, created a fashion line and become more well know for being drunk then for her talent, will this album triumph? This remains to be seen, but Lily's first single to be released off this new album proves that she is as tight as ever with her lyrics, in the cheek humour and pointing out the culutral issues in society...but if anything her new single 'The Fear' is fun, and a return to the Lily of old. This album is sure to be a hit for Lily and will once again place her back in the spotlight, this time, for all the right reasons.

An album of often sublime offerings in a vein which always sounds fresh, never trite - the all time antidote to crass Christmas Muzak. One moment tender (Some Children See Him), the next earthy (Jingle Bells), but always believable, this collection is such a tonic for those of us who have become jaded with the usual seasonal fare. 'At Christmas' is an ipod essential, an album I can work and play to seemingly without tiring. James's sincere vocal interpretations take us immediately to the heart of the song, as ever in his work. For me, the jewel in this excellent selection would have to be Joni Mitchell's 'River', though I also love the playful 'Baby, It's Cold Outside', a duet with Natalie Cole. This CD isn't just songs from Hannah Montana, but it has various other tracks from other singers or bands. I got it on Valentines day 2008 and listened to it that same night - I couldn't stop dancing!! I'd definately say it was worth buying and I'd reccomend it to anyone who is thinking about buying it. And it contains the lyrics aswell, so you can sing along to it when you're feeling lazy!
