I've had this some time now. It's one of my favourites. Different styles and a good long album, aside from a couple of dud tracks I'd heartily recommend it, good to see it's selling well again.

This is as fine an introduction to the works of Leonard Cohen as could be imagined. The track list, selected by the man himself, covers almost every period of his recorded output (Cohen is not prolific in the way, say, Bob Dylan is, or Neil Young), but I do feel some truly great stuff has been overlooked, i.e. the hushed, but haunting version of 'Story Of Isaac' from 1973's LIVE SONGS, which is one of the most profound things that anyone has ever written, the great live recordings from FIELD COMMANDER COHEN: Tour Of 1979, which admittedly was not released until after THE ESSENTIAL LEONARD COHEN appeared. Of those songs, I feel the title track is as good and epic a song as any he's recorded, and the version from NEW SKIN FOR THE OLD CEREMONY would ... Read More:

The musical equivalent of a war crime. Scouting for Girls have set back the progress of the whole of Western civilization by at least 18 months.

To me this set of eleven songs seems like This Is The Life - a deserving worldwide hit, with six million YouTube views at the time of writing - and ten charming variations. Collectively, they just about pull their weight, and occasionally get close to genius (e.g. 'Poison Prince', in my humble opinion). I very much hope we will see one or two more big ideas in the second album.

She is grim, her tunes are awful, she can't dance, can't sing and she does insist on cavorting around in leotards, corsets etc and it's just horrible. I've been a Madonna fan since I was a little girl, but it's time she stopped acting like a teenager and just made decent music (if at all possible). It's not about her not being sexaul at her age (as one reviewer tried to insinuate that another had said), it's about her making music and being an entertainer. I personally think she needs to hang it up now, she has never been a good singer but good material and the ability to be a spoilt exibitionist has got her to where she is today, fair play to her, but this album is weak and almost embarassing.
If she is as great as she likes to think she is, then why does ... Read More:

As you might guess from the title, I don't like this one bit. Loved their first two albums, and the live in New York CD, and have been waiting for this third album for years. But it is awful to the point where I can't listen to it. It's like Eric Morecambe said - all the notes are there, but not necessarily in the right order. It gives me a headache every time I turn it on. What were you thinking Beth? Look out my copy on Amazon Marketplace! Erm, it's brilliant, you must buy it...

My first impressions were good, as pendulum introduced me into d`n b. But after much listening and reading outher reviews I have come to notice that this album is just there to get them into the charts, regardless of true brum and bass.

Pendulum have fused together a load of power chourds and a live drummer to what could potentally been a d`n b track.

So in all; this is just really bassy rock music, (and I hate rock).

I found the white stripes interesting, but wasn't particularly mad about them. Haven't listened to much of the first Raconteurs album either, but I saw them on BBC2 Culture show a couple of months ago and was mesmerised - amazing musicians.
As most people point out - this is a varied album, and some are instantly brilliant (Many shades of black, Carlolina Story, The switch and the spur) and some take a while to grow on you( and personally I find White's voice a bit, well, irritating sometimes, whereas Benson has a much easier (and very good) classic rock voice), but it is a very, very good album indeed...

South London's finest Rooty-Toot Maunva (aka Rodney Smith) is back with his fourth and most varied album yet. 3 years since his last release proper, Roots Manuva has shown he is an artist who hasn't been afraid to experiment with his sound, implementing a host of influences from the classic roots-reggae to electro; analogue dub to rocksteady funk. His ability to fuse these base elements into a product that is undeniably his own has led to his music being instantly recognisable, what with the warping dub-plates and skanking electroid melodics. Add to this his sharp, patois-tinged, tongue-in-cheek lyrics that address issues from the music industry to urban society, gal-dem to relationships, and you have the proof behind why Roots is deservedly one of the UK's biggest hip-hop stars. ...
