I ordered this set after seeing it advertised in an email from Amazon. I was not very familiar with Johnny Cash, with the exception of Boy named Sue and Ring of Fire. This double CD really has blown me away. Cash's voice is great but the entertainment comes as much from his banter with the prisoners as from the songs, many of which have jail themes. All in all a great showcase for a natural performer. The sound quality is also excellent demonstrating better stereo effects than many modern albums.

I came to Metallica late, this was the first album I bought after seeing them on the 'Freddie Mercury Tribute' at Wembley in 1992. I was already into metal, but at that time it was Faith No More, RHCP, that sort of thing. What got me the most was the sound, that heavy brutal metal sound but with a real attention to structure and attitude. And the musicality (sic) of it too. In 1992, being just 17, Metallica's Black album defined an entire year for me - it was the year I left school and the summer before I went to college. I have fond memories of discovering Metallica, so for me this album will always be more about how I feel about it much more than the actual songs on it.

It's nice to hear a great Brian Wilson album at last. His previous offerings , to my mind, have been mixed to say the least. This album sounds fresh and back to his best.

76.The Definitive Collection by: Abba

Music : The Definitive Collection
For all its world-conquering success, ABBA Gold didn't really "rehabilitate" ABBA. The casual track sequencing and the choice of only the biggest hits means that a lot of good stuff was missed. The kitsch that dogged the early part of ABBA's career seems to be reinforced.

With The Definitive Collection, however, you get (a) all of the tracks that appear on Gold, (b) plus the additional gems that couldn't be included on Gold, and (c) very elegant packaging.

Another great plus with this set is that the tracks are sequenced chronologically. This makes it easier to see how the group progressed from their somewhat "innocent" early days to their remarkably affecting early 80s output. The big hits are well known and have been discussed ad infinitum. ... Read More:

Takes a couple of listenings, but after that it just blows you away. Several standout songs, particularly "How she could sing The Wildwood flower" (which I took to be a reference to an earlier generation of the Carter Family rather than June Cater and Johnny Cash) "Gold" is just beautiful, but particularly the magnificent "Sailing Round the Room". Anybody remember the last poor, or even average, album Emmylou made?

Kid Rock seems to belong to the growing number of 'artists' who have taken at least some of their inspiration from the blues and soul stars of the sixties, seventies, and earlier decades, only to miss the point. Is there some intended irony in the choice of title? Modern rhythm and blues grew out of the churches and church choirs of the South. Kid Rock seems to have as much moral or physical depth, as much connection with the blues, as a plate of cold chips.

This album is a mixture of misogyny, misanthropy, narcissism, and self-loathing, with no common thread other than Kid Rock's belief he has a talent that deserves to be heard and a need to get paid. Its not even as if the rock tracks rock that hard.

White soul music has been done better before. Save your ... Read More:

In the modern world with the formulaic, follow-my-leader attitude which has given us so many bands sounding the same and trying to follow in the footsteps of industry leaders like Arctic Monkeys, I can't overstate how much the Black Kids are a breath of fresh air.

Its a unique, quirky and energetic album which puts that spring back in your step. From start to finish I thoroughly enjoyed this album and its been a while since I've said that (Biffy Clyro's puzzle I think).

So if you're tired of the dross offered up by the mediocre Wombats, Pigeon Detectives, Enemy (the list could go on) then BUY THIS NOW!!!
