2.It's Snowing on My Piano by: Bugge Wesseltoft

Music : It's Snowing on My Piano
If you are looking for an alternative christmas album this might be the one.

Most melodies are old scandinavian and european traditional songs, but Bugge Wesseltoft manages to get back to the core of the songs, and restore their beauty.

Bugge Wesseltoft is best known for his modern jazz albums, so this album is a surprise. This is a meditative approach where unnecessary ornaments are removed. The music seems simple on the outside, and even if it is wonderful to listen to the music passively, it can be actively listened to hundreds of times.

The result is a fantastic album with a relaxed atmosphere.

When we bought this in the sixties we (pleasantly) thought we had been ripped off, but this record contains perhaps the very best of S&G's songs, including April Come She Will and both versions of the Sound of Silence as well as Scarborough Fair, and there is also some accoustic guitar instrumentals which are worth having, and after forty years, I find the orchestral music great too. There is a particularly nice track with guitar and dark orchestra strings. This is a fine sixties record and I listen to it a great deal. It is delightful.

Bugge's latest offering is, in my view, the best album he has produced in the New Conception of Jazz. Whereas NCOJ LIVE simply ran over reasonably familiar ground this album has finally articulated a consistent Jazz aesthetic, something worth investing in and engaging.

The album has the fun of previous outings but integrates the various acoustic and electric elements.

You really feel you're in the presence of a genuine musical identity - rather than some half-baked reaction to trad Jazz.

Highly recommended

For a long time this album was only available at collector's fairs (on vinyl - and costly) or as part
of a triple-album CD compilation (along with Mwandishi and Crossings). To finally be able to buy, and
at a bargain price, one of the greatest albums ever made (I almost said "in the seventies") is a blessed
relief. Why oh why did it take Warner so long to get this one out again on it's own? This album is not
as cleanly recorded as Headhunters, but the saturated and slightly distorted deep-fried funk is
so greasy that even digital sanitising has been unable to clean up these artery-clogging grooves.
Most of the tunes are rambling bluesy fonk, over which various jazz maestros give their chops a work-

I bought this CD for the music on it by Dave Grusin and in that respect I wasn't disapointed. From the opening theme to How could you lose me? (the end title) his piano driven music is superb, mixing in elements of jazz and blues with more conventional soundtrack music. The other tracks on the disc are not really to my tastes and I would have preferred more Dave Grusin music but that said it is a soundtrack album. So 5 stars for the Grusin music but only 3 overall ...

Music : Thrust
Having read great reviews for this album, after having listened to Headhunters and after having see him live in the best musical experience of my life in November 2006, I decided to by this album. Frankly, I was slightly dissapointed, but perhaps I had been previously spoilt by the offering of Headhunters and the amazing live performance. I do not profess to be a jazz expert by any stretch of the imagination, but I can only describe my own feelings towards the tracks on this album:

I found Palm Grease to be a rather protracted track and, while it may be unfair to compare it with the equaivalent first track on Headhunters, it lacked the mind-blowing high that Chameleon has. 3/5

Actual Proof is a very intelligent track which introduces ... Read More:

A corker! I love the way the rhythmic line manages to sound like R&B and salsa at the same time, without relying on the basic force of a reggaeton-type beat. As a British salsera who can't speak Spanish, I've been hoping someone will come up with a way to play salsa in English, without it ending up like the usual cheesy salsa-romantica-pop covers - well, these R&B vocals work! Of course this album is a lot more than salsa, but the clave feel is there and if you are a dancer, it has the same effect on your feet and hips as any other top quality salsa track would. And Mary Pearce is as fabulous as ever- can't wait for 'Show Me Now' to be released on an album...

The essential George Duke speaks for itself, hardcore jazz funkers will love it!
"Brazillian love affair" is a classic as is "Reach out" and the dance floor masterpiece "Scuse me miss" However my alltime fav track is "I want you for myself" The female vocalist sounding not unlike deniece williams! "Dukey stick" sounding straight out of the george clinton/parliament stable
With a total of 33 tracks, this is unbeatable value, and a variety of different rhythms and beats for the hardcore fan.
