Hynotic, subtle and the same time wonderfully soulful this record surely sits within the top five of all time Blue Note releases. It's the ultimate late night session. The consistently wonderfully Kenny Burrell who makes the difficult sound effortlessly simple gives a masterclass in Jazz guitar playing with an endlesss tapestry of smooth licks that melt into the instinctive groove of Stanley Turrentine's sax. It's a partnership made in heaven, they work so languidly off each other on, "Mule" The way Burrell brings in the track on,"Soul lament," with his emotive twanging are classic bars of music. I am also particularly fond of the waltz tempo on,"Wavy Gravy."
This record is wonderfully focussed, Burrell's musical philosophy is stamped ... Read More:

Im amazed at how cheap these albums are as the musicianship and technical skill are so impressive. Grant Green's guitar with the vibraphone works beautifully tonally and melodically. An album for a jazz fan.

YES! This really is some smokin Jazz. When the musicians let rip on this it really does take you somewhere else.

If you like Jazz you must own this. If you like the guitar you must own this. If you like music you must own this. If you think you don't like jazz, listen to this record, and if you dont like it, you really dont like jazz.
This is REAL virtuosity on display here rather than pure technical ability. Steve Vai would give anything to play like this!

Brilliant!

4.Incredible Jazz Guitar by: Wes Montgomery

Music : Incredible Jazz Guitar

Wes Montgomery can be described as the greatest jazz guitarist to appear after Charlie Christian's death (he also used some harmonic elements borrowed from Django Reinhardt.)

Entirely self-taught, he developed a unique style eschewing fingerpicking and plectrum techniques. Instead, he picked tunes with his thumb. His playing of unison octaves and parallel chords gave him a distinctively soft, well-rounded guitar tone.

After signing to the Riverside label in 1959, he released several outstanding recordings which were revelations to jazz lovers.

Among these recordings, "The Incredible Jazz Guitar", recorded in January 1960, is - arguably - his best album. Accompanied by gifted and experienced musicians [Tommy ... Read More:

Recorded on November 16, 1964, Grant Green's "Street of Dreams" is the third of four Blue Note albums featuring the guitar-organ trio of Grant Green, Larry Young and drummer Elvin Jones. The first album, Grant Green's "Talkin' About," featured only the aforementioned trio, but on the other three dates, a different musician was brought in for each session to form memorable quartets. Larry Young's "Into Somethin'" featured Sam Rivers on tenor sax, Grant Green's "I Want To Hold Your Hand" included Hank Mobley, and "Street of Dreams" benefited from the contributions of Bobby Hutcherson on vibes. The combinations the "Street of Dreams" quartet came up with are truly magical -- Green's smooth licks and ... Read More:

This record is amazingly sleak from the bluesy title track, the jumping, "travellin," on to the wonderfully subtle,"fever," where Smith really starts to blow some fire into his organ. They work so well in tandem; Jimmy provides the funk, Kenny the sophistication. The guitar at the start of,"Blues for Del," is simply beautiful and then the scurrying organ comes in. Burrell's solo in the middle really makes the track, he's the master at making the complicated sound easy. "Easy living," is so sumptuously languid it's almost painful to listen to, this is followed by the upbeat Benny Goodman number,"soft winds," where Jimmy Smith gets a chance to showcase his trickery.
This definitely has the feel of two old mates getting together one afternoon to simply ... Read More:
