In my humble opinion this movie has everything. Superb music, some great comedy moments and a brilliant ending. It is most certainly in my top 3 films of all time. Just sit back and enjoy but don't take it too serious 5 stars!!!

As a mere stripling of seventeen years old, Steve Ellis set the charts alight as lead vocalist with the Love Affair. Since then, Steve has been buffeted by the blasts of music fashion and personal mishaps that would've put a more delicate soul in a care home. This album is a copper-bottomed cracker, though, with Ellis in peerless vocal form - try Nu Clear Blues or Requiem For A Tyrant for starters. The guy has still got an immacualte set of blue-eyed soul vocal pipes, and I hope that the album does well enough for him to keep on keepin' on. They don't make 'em like this anymore, and what we've got left, we should treasure.

Great album with all my favourite tracks. How disappointed I was though with the revamped new vocal for Wuthering Heights. It was overproduced too much backing and Kate's voice dare I say did sound rather tinny and harsh.

The rest of the tracks are super Cloudbusting is great and all my old favourites.

I must track down the original wuthering Heights as I have them all on vinyl but not CD.

The group that operate under the name Samurai is actually the same band (exept for one member) as the last incarnation of Web, who recoreded the exellent album "I Spider" (also released by Esoteric). It's more brass oriented, but the performance of the band and the songwriting skills of Dave Lawson are intact. Lawson later became a founding member of Greenslade, and the music on Samurai sole album shows some similarities to the earlier albums made by that group. So if you looking for a "new" and exiting experience in the progressive field, don't miss this one!

Music : Just Good Friends - Series 1 And 2 [1983]
Great to see that this is out on dvd and video at last. brilliantly acted by Paul Nicholas and the gorgeous Jan Francis, it has comedy, pathos, wit and some great one liners from a well assembled cast. The excellent John Ringham, under rated and always a super actor with ability of timing and expression, provides a colourful foil for the on/off romance beteween vince and penny. Penny's mother, played by Sylvia Kay,is an actress of acerbic wit and energetic acting. Her monologues with each of the characters provide moments of great mirth and insight. This is a wonderful series, but only 2 of the 3 series are so far available. Watch it for a flavour of the 1980's and enjoy the chemistry of a talented cast. It is the equal of fools and horses, being ... Read More:

6.El Cid [1961] starring: Charlton Heston, Sophia Loren, Raf Vallone, Geneviève Page, John Fraser
directed by: Anthony Mann

Music : El Cid [1961]
The first of Anthony Mann and Samuel Bronston's ambitious and intelligent epics, El Cid has to boast the most gorgeous use of the widescreen ever - the Cid and Chimene's first meeting makes the most of every inch of the screen, while Robert Krasker's gliding camera is remarkably sympathetic to screen format, architecture and exteriors alike. Indeed, the whole film displays Mann's typically intelligent use of location, here in interiors (often his weak spot) as well - during their bleak wedding feast, he keeps Chimene and the Cid at a distance, the staircase where he killed her father (never a great start to any marriage) prominent between them; and while the good king's court is filled with colour, light and people, once the weak Alfonso assumes power ... Getting older does have some advantages! I was fortunate to see this set at three locations during the 1979 tour, including the Hammersmith Odeon gig. It was a great show in every way, it's just a shame that it does not appear to be available on DVD.

Music : Caravaggio [1986]
every shot in this beautiful film is like one of caravaggio's paintings - a true masterpiece of cinematography. jarman shows his story telling skills off to the full, sharing his obvious fondness for the artist and his works to the extent that you feel compelled to go away and see more of his paintings for yourself after having watched this. dexter fletcher plays the young and precocious caravaggio as only one so young and precocious could, and sean bean is wonderfully spiteful and sexy as his muse. this is a film for the faint hearted art film fan - as jarman fills the film with his trademark humour eccentricities to keep you on your toes.
