Nineteen of ABBA's best songs are plenty, but you won't tire of them. It is amazing that four Swedes (Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus as writers and Anni-Frid Lyngstad and Agnetha Fältskog as the main singers) could take such simple English cliches and turn them into pop music magic. Despite sometimes maddeningly simple lyrics, the song arrangements were unnervingly catchy and the multi-level layered compostions are fascinating. The keyboards and synthesizers were used in some of the more ingenious ways during the seventies to produce that unmistakeable ABBA sound. Great compilation of classic guitar hits taking standout tracks from the previous 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps' compilations, but a note to customers that the tracklisting given here is incorrect. I have just got the box set recently, and have been enjoying it greatly. Not just that, my three daughters aged 9, 6 and 2 are great fans, and want to listen to it all the time in the car. And the two-year-old even says 'Rock' once she hears the first few bars of 'We will rock you'. Just goes on to show that Queen truly made ageless music, which still scores far above most contemporary music.

This is as fine an introduction to the works of Leonard Cohen as could be imagined. The track list, selected by the man himself, covers almost every period of his recorded output (Cohen is not prolific in the way, say, Bob Dylan is, or Neil Young), but I do feel some truly great stuff has been overlooked, i.e. the hushed, but haunting version of 'Story Of Isaac' from 1973's LIVE SONGS, which is one of the most profound things that anyone has ever written, the great live recordings from FIELD COMMANDER COHEN: Tour Of 1979, which admittedly was not released until after THE ESSENTIAL LEONARD COHEN appeared. A really excellent Kinks collection. The whole CD drips with classy recordings from a hugely influential band. The price is a steal, the quality is uncompromising. A treasure trove of innovative British music, full of songs that surely require little or no introduction. The Kinks made some superb music & a good cross section can be found here - you really would be barking mad not to get this, it's just ideal !

Yes, yes, it is a rehash of the Best Of OMD from'88 and The OMD Singles from '98. BUT, and this is a big but...this new package contains ALL of the bands promo videos spanning their entire career. Some of the videos show their age (although cleaned up nicely for this release), and are worth watching for nostalgic purposes. However, some of the newer vids are stunning - I will make particular mention of Walking on the Milky Way, Dream of Me, and Then You Turn Away - the purchase price is worth it for these tracks alone. As a bonus, you get 20 remastered tracks on CD - not one of them a duffer (which makes this greatest hits package virtually unique, against most other artists). Bargain purchase.

Overall, an excellent selection of Dave Edmund's "Greatest Hits". I would have given it 5 stars only for the recording quality of tracks 7 and 8....I realise they were like that originally (I remember the 45s!), but it spoils the rest of the album unless you skip them (which I do!). Otherwise a welcome addition to my collection. GED

david bowie the legend my mam played me him when i was a kid loved him then and even more now so many classic here jean genie life on mars starman rebel rebel ashes to ashes lets dance etc david bowie the icon deffintely he was voted the most influiential artist of all timein guiness world records book!! he is cool but maybe thats a bit too much? my mam played me queen too who i love too freddie mercury surely one of the best rock singers and perfomer ever!! just like elvis presley he had the whole package but i think all three david bowie,freddie mercury,elvis presley are the whole package in my opinion!! buy this its fab

This album features the greatest song ever written or recorded "LOVE WILL TEAR US APART` - The rest of the songs are OK - but `Love Will Tear Us Apart` is a timeless classic, a work of art that I play about 30 times every day...it is playing now as I write this. The vocal performance of the late great Ian Curtis is pure pop pefection...I want this song played at my funeral along with "Nothing Compares 2 U" by Sinead O`Connor and "My Death" by DAVID BOWIE. Those three songs are better than any tonic, more moving then any hymn or national anthem and give more of a buzz than any drug. If you dont like Joy Division or New Order - still BUY this album because "Love Will Tear Us Apart" is a reason for living...

I have loved all these tracks from when they were first released and I was a schoolboy,I managed to see them live twice around that time, at the Ulster Hall in Belfast, I generally don't listen to that much older music and tend to move on,usually staying quite contempory, but just about everything on this CD sounds just as great as it always did!
