This is as fine an introduction to the works of Leonard Cohen as could be imagined. The track list, selected by the man himself, covers almost every period of his recorded output (Cohen is not prolific in the way, say, Bob Dylan is, or Neil Young), but I do feel some truly great stuff has been overlooked, i.e. the hushed, but haunting version of 'Story Of Isaac' from 1973's LIVE SONGS, which is one of the most profound things that anyone has ever written, the great live recordings from FIELD COMMANDER COHEN: Tour Of 1979, which admittedly was not released until after THE ESSENTIAL LEONARD COHEN appeared. Fantastic CD & quality reproduction only disappointment is "Proud One" isn't included. Can't find this song on any Frankie Valli/Four Seasons CDs any ideas ?

I have just got the box set recently, and have been enjoying it greatly. Not just that, my three daughters aged 9, 6 and 2 are great fans, and want to listen to it all the time in the car. And the two-year-old even says 'Rock' once she hears the first few bars of 'We will rock you'. Just goes on to show that Queen truly made ageless music, which still scores far above most contemporary music.

I have loved all these tracks from when they were first released and I was a schoolboy,I managed to see them live twice around that time, at the Ulster Hall in Belfast, I generally don't listen to that much older music and tend to move on,usually staying quite contempory, but just about everything on this CD sounds just as great as it always did!

Queen are the most overrated band ever. This collection does contain the odd decent song but most songs here are trivial, soul-less, hollow and very very empty. The world's most pointless band!

david bowie the legend my mam played me him when i was a kid loved him then and even more now so many classic here jean genie life on mars starman rebel rebel ashes to ashes lets dance etc david bowie the icon deffintely he was voted the most influiential artist of all timein guiness world records book!! he is cool but maybe thats a bit too much? my mam played me queen too who i love too freddie mercury surely one of the best rock singers and perfomer ever!! just like elvis presley he had the whole package but i think all three david bowie,freddie mercury,elvis presley are the whole package in my opinion!! buy this its fab

A really excellent Kinks collection. The whole CD drips with classy recordings from a hugely influential band. The price is a steal, the quality is uncompromising. A treasure trove of innovative British music, full of songs that surely require little or no introduction. The Kinks made some superb music & a good cross section can be found here - you really would be barking mad not to get this, it's just ideal !

Great original under-rated band and song-writer, buy this if you're quite new to their unique sound and then splash out on the individual fantastic CDs, then try the Travelling Wilburys!

I was looking for somewhere to start to begin my Fleetwood Mac education having vague childhood memories of it from the influence of my parents, and I couldn't have picked a better place to start! This is a wonderful compliation which covers different eras of Fleetwood Mac's musical development, and with that comes some very different sounds to their music. I love it more everytime I listen to it!!

i like this compilation as it contains most of pink floyd's classics. i'm not a big fan of them but my favorite songs are the two 1980s hits learning to fly and sorrow. then comes another brick in the wall, money, wish you were here and shine on you crazy diamond which i like better on the wish you were here album. but for classic rock fans, this is a must have!
