I've been a Cohen fan as far back as I can remember. I had a feeling I wouldn't be disappointed by this album, since Cohen's live backup singers are legendary, and I was right. These are without a doubt the most beautiful and emotional versions of the songs ever recorded, and I find it impossible to listen to the album as mere background music; as soon as the music starts playing, I can't help but close my eyes and just let the music envelop me completely. The songs "Bird on a Wire" and "Sisters of Mercy" are worthy of special mention. The tempo is lower, the saxophone sexier and the vocals deeper and more intense than ever before, and the result defies description. Just bought this today and it thoroughly deserves to be thought of as the bes tlive album ever from jailbreak to the rocker lynotts charisma shows through especially just before the rocker. all in all for 3 quid even if your not the biggest fan its still worth it. its one fo the best cds i have and will probably remain so.

I have been a guitarist for 47 years, I have never understood why Clapton is so highly rated, believe me his limitations are laughable. If you want blue-based Rock n Roll, Ry Cooder produces better albums, at least they have heart and guts. Clapton unplugged is so lame, and the sidesmen so timid, trying never to show up the boss, the album is rehearsed to death. I remember B.B. King on one of his visits saying he was off to see a real guitarist at Ronnie Scott - Barney Kessel. I think when Joe Public decides that some-one is God that person ends up believing it, and if they harbour any doubt then they can always to resort to drugs and liquor.

Great ! Superb ! Fantastic ! I agree that picture could have been better, but music overcomes it all ! Something not seen. We in Croatia would say "prava festa" (true fiesta) for all of people in the venue: the musitians and the audience, and therefore all the people who watch it on DVD.... Really must have DVD.

I've had this album SOME years now, to find it's still available is great news. Backed up the album, and bought the VHS tape of the show. WHY oh WHY, can I not get it on DVD? I don't want to lose it to equipment outdating. How much does it cost to convert tape to DVD, and will it let me? THIS is THE definitive Dire Straits. Forget all the other albums, start with this, and then find other albums with less repeats on them. Dire Straits greatest annoyance, is repeating many tracks, on many albums. Chances are you will end up with some tracks several times. ALCHEMY will have your favourite version of any track that's on it though, GUARANTEED! One of the best albums in the world. Where's the DVD !!!!

Live Songs is one of Cohen's early classics and should be part of every fan's collection. Please Don't Pass Me By with its spoken introduction is harrowing, Passing Through ("glad that I ran into you") is delicate and yearning and Tonight Will Be Fine is unsettlingly erotic. There is an intensity here that complements the studio versions very well, a side of early Cohen that fans will miss out on if they don't own this album. Some of this rawness later manifested on the Phil Spector-produced Death Of A Ladies Man to the consternation of many of Cohen's fans, but it was always a part of his musical make-up, as this album demonstrates. In some ways, Angels Of Light's album New Mother reminds me of the mood of Live Songs.

After listening to the River off this album in my mates car I decided to buy my first springsteen record. Im now a avid fan of the great man . Most of his classics are on the these 3 CD's . From the haunting tracks like Thunder road and Racing in the streets to rocking classics like Born to run and Rosalita. If theres only one album you get then it sould be this one

I was a Queen fan back in the 1970's up until around 1975/6. I drifted away from listening to them as they drifted away from rock towards the pop genre. On the basis of this album Queen are once again rock giants, Paul Rogers breathes much needed new life into the repertoire and it's great to see Brian May with a smile on his face again. Ignore the detractors and spoilers, this is the best line up Queen have had.

I originally bought this album on vinyl in the early eighties and always thought that it was very good. If you are a hard rock or metal fan then this is the era of Quo that you want to hear with the more raw and brash sound along with bassist Alan Lancaster providing some of the vocals too which all helped give them a definite undiluted hard rock sound back then. Since being into this album as a kid some 25 years ago I`ve been through the musical mill being into Metal ,House , Thrash , death metal , hardcore , cybermetal , Trance , goth metal , Nu-metal , metalcore etc and currently my fave bands apart from my own are Opeth Onslaught and Children of Bodom ! I wouldn`t normally recommend Quo to a rock/metal fan of today but their work from the early/mid ... Read More:
