Their debut was stunning - there's no denying it. Mixing power, fury and at times comic instrumentation and vocals, it was always going to be a hard album to beat. But System have done it. Toxicity is an amazing album.

For those that dismiss Toxicity as 'too commercial' or 'too mainstream'. To make accessible music that still has the power and strength that nearly all of the tracks on this CD have takes a great deal of skill. How to make music sound not only familiar but also brand apsnking new and still like it has something incredibly important to say is the sign of master songwriters. And Toxicity has all of that in bucketloads.

The melodic pain of singles Chop Suey, Toxicity and Aerials counter the deliciously ... Read More:

When everyone (including myself) got caught up in the sheer excellence of S.O.A.D's album Toxicity.. I saw this in a shop and bought it. I immediately decided that this was superior to Toxicity, but nobody else seemed to have given it a listen and/or thought that Toxicity was there first album!
But now everyone seems to have discovered this genius album and to this day i still see this as their best!

An average album let down by a very weak production - a few good songs but nothing in the same class as Master Of Puppets or Reign In Blood.
1988's State Of Euphoria & 1990's Persistence Of Time are FAR superior despite lacking the iconic status of this vastly overrated 1987 effort.

Very mid tempo with a tinny drum sound and thin guitars - not this band's finest hour...........

This is one of the most savage, intense thrash/death metal albums ever recorded. Like a hateful, twisted version of 'Reign in Blood'-era Slayer, this record is also notable for having been a big influence on early Sepultura records like 'Schizophrenia' and 'Beneath the Remains'. The vocals are vicious, feral barks of raw power, the guitars buzz and grate like the fires of hell and the drums are frenetic and thunderous. The production isn't great, but in a funny sort of way this enhances the music, as it makes it more raw and aggressive sounding. Buy this now if you are a fan of Slayer, old-style Sepultura or Morbid Angel, and get headbanging to some vintage ferocious German thrash!!

is there another album cover that screams 'vulgar display of power'?

unlike many other bands, who's 2nd album seems to flop dearly, Pantera's second album (or 6th, if you count the self-relased ones), is metal at its most powerful, devestating, and angry state. Songs like Mouth for war, Walk, This Love (absolutely NOTHING to do with the Maroon 5 song of the same name, thank you very much), and a new level have monster riffs and vocals; but the entire album is listenable without skipping any songs. Phil Anselmo's voice without the high pitched wails suits the music well.

if you like the watered down 'metal' of today (i.e. avenged sevenfold, trivium) you will probably think it too angry and heavy. However, if you like Megadeth, MEtallica, Machine ... Read More:

Well megadeth are one of my favourite bands though i wouldnt say this is their best cause i prefer Peace Sells and Youthanasia but it is a masterpiece the best songs are the classic Holy Wars, Hanger 18, Take No Prisoner, Tornado Of Souls & Rust In peace. The music is so technical the riffs are brilliant the solos are amazing the lyrics are great daves vocals may not be at his best but still awesome. If you're starting to get into megadeth buy this with Peace Sells But Whos Buying. Their both thrash metal Masterpieces

This is a must have for every metalhead, if you think this is an awesome metal album check out Vulgar Display Of power that's even better. The best tracks are Domination, Cowboys From Hell, Primal Concrete Sledge & Heresy. A must buy a classic. R.I.P Dimebag.

I had Vulgar and went on to listen to this - it took time to grow on me, as all great albums do (a LONG time for this one) but the pure guttural nastiness of the vocals, percussive guitars, growling bass, infectious drum patterns and insane solos make this without a doubt one of the greatest albums I've ever listened to.

It has a certain dirty, gritty quality that makes it a very unique album in my books.

Dime does so many things with that axe that you didn't think were possible, and the lyrics and songwriting are amongst the best I've heard.

The album begins with a thrashy number, goes on to more groove orientated songs and then drops down into a well of wallowing self loathing and putridity nearer the climax - don't get me wrong - thats a good thing! ... Read More:

I aint a massive fan off this album, i prefer their later albums e.g Low, but this have some killer stuff on like Alone In The Dark & Burnt Offerings & Over The Walls. The songs here sound a bit too similar. This is a great album to listen to in full but the songs seperatley are only O.K. Though Alone In The Dark is an amazing song. I am kind off a new fan off testament as i only have 3 albums off their my first being low. If you buy one testament album you'll end up wanting alot more, as when you first hear 'em you'll never stop loving their music. I think their influence is obvious because in Burnt Offerings, you can clearly hear the solo from metallicas disposable heroes which usually isn't a bad thing but here it just annoys me for some reason. I know this wont be much help but this ... Read More:

Although less coherent than their other albums dues to it's 'unplanned' and outtakes nature, this is still a powerful album from an outstanding band. You still get the raw riffs and lyrics, all packaged in SOAD unique style. I love this album, as I do all their music, and would say it is worth it for 'Boom' alone, just listen to the lyrics on it and be blown away. An intelligent, rockin' band, with a lot to say in as fun a way as possible. Highly recommended.
