Suprise I only have one Bowie album ( its true) Hunky Dory and to be honest I cant even say when the last time was that I played it, yea I have records and CD`s. so an old friend lent this to me to see if he could fire up my interest ,We have known each other for at least 30 years and use to have a good idea of what each other liked and listened to. I always thought that Bowie was a pop star who`s singles sold well and maybe a lot of his fans were teens ( and he acted ). secondly I knew his guitarist Mick Ronson had a solo album out `Slaughter on 5th avenue` Which I have never heard but know it is good,so me not to bothered with the David Bowie thing was seriously suprised and delighted by this 72 Live recording. I am biased of course because I love James Taylor's voice...! but this is sublime for a christmas feel anytime of the year...even if,like me, you are not vaguely religious, all the songs just feel 'right'!

I bought this a couple of years ago and return to it regularly - a sure sign of a good recording. I like the music of Vaughan Williams and this is a good example of his music. The Fantasia was a big surprise - its a lovely setting of some well known carols. John Barrow has a superb baritone voice. The Hodie takes a little more getting into but it is worth the effort. Both choirs and orchestra have good sounds. At this price you can't go wrong!

I was thrilled to buy this CD from Amazon a few years ago, having worn out my copy on cassette. There are well-known standards (Kirsty and The Pogues' 'Fairytale') here mixed with lesser known gems, but everything is well worth the listen. Stina Nordenstam's ethereal voice is totally suited to Christmas songs, whilst Tom Waits' bass growl is perfect for his tale of a jailed hooker. Everyone who has heard this CD has said "Wow, that's great. Where did you track that down?"

I thought this CD had got lost in our recent house move and was delighted when it turned up in one the last boxes to be opened. I immediately rushed to listen again even though it is early March and am once again entranced by the warmth and beauty of the music and the singing. You really can play this CD anytime in the year and that is what I am doing now! If you buy it you will not be disappointed!

I'm sorry but anyone who chooses Kylie's Santa Baby and Samantha Mumba's All I want for Christmas over the originals,shouldn't be allowed to release CD's.

The other reviews here show that this is obviously a Marmite set - you either love it or you hate it. Me, I love it I treasure it and play it often. In such circumstances another review may not be of that much help to an undecided prospective purchaser because you can't know in advance whose taste you share, but for what it's worth: The treasure of this set for me is the B Minor Mass. It has been described as the greatest work of art in any medium ever and while that may be a rather overblown claim it isn't wholly indefensible. Gardiner's interpretation does it proud. Here it is! Many of the most popular christmas songs from yesteryear. Christmas would'nt be christmas without Andy Williams.
