Having bought this album after hearing it playing in the hairdressers (!), I was not dissappointed. There are so many songs I recognised that I didn't even realise were Groove Armada's and there's a real mix of chill out songs along with dance/pop, so whatever mood you're in this album will give you a lift! I don't think this album will ever sound out-dated, it's great!

Detached, hypnotic, and retro (much like Pink Floyd's song "Breathe" from the Dark Side Of The Moon--and yet not Pink Floyd) is how I would describe the sound of this debut CD. Released in 1988, Moon Safari is the first release from the Surrender Monkeys-French electronica duo Air, consisting of Nicolas Godingodiva and Jean-Benoît Dunckelly. (The name "Air" is an acronym for Amour, Imagination, Rêve -- How life changing is that !) Some of Mobys' earlier work dates quite badly. This is not the case with Play it sounds just as fresh as it did all those years ago. This recording is like nothing you've heard before with chilling vocals and superb synths. When this came out it was like someone lit a fuse it seemed new people were "getting it" every week and it was THE album of the summer. You can listen to it now and it's just as moving as it always was. This will not date...

As with all who have felt compelled to add their thoughts on this amazing double CD, I too find it timeless and one of those rare collections you will never get tired of. We often drive upto Wales (usually leave around 8pm and get to mid Ceredigian around midnight) and this collection, specially Part 1, is reserved for the last hour or so....nothing like rolling through the night to this sound :) Hope everyone gets to experience these sounds....thanks to the Bear for recommending it :)

1. Lovely Head. 10/10 2. Paper Bag. 8/10 3. Human. 10/10 4. Pilots. 10/10 5. Deer Stop. 5/10* 6. Felt Mountain. 9/10 7. Oompa Radar. 9/10 8. Utopia. 10/10 9. Horse Tears 9/10 * OUCH!!! Totally PAINFUL!!!! If you like "Supernature", "Black Cherry", and "Seventh Tree", have "Felt Montain". Obviously it's the weakest out of the 4, though really relaxing and entres you into a total state of calm. OVERALL GRADE: 10/10

Royksopp is a wonderful find, and in particular Melody A.M. The group have, and with great success, produced a collection of tracks with great continuity and, I must add, respect for their listener's ears. It is truly a delight to put on this record. Although the tracks can be soothing, and ideal for chill out, I thought a few allowed you to do anything but chill out. Poor Leno in particular is sexy, and creeps up on you when you're least expecting it. Brilliant.

One of the best from the Cafe. excellent selection of tunes. From the haunting Mumbai Theme tune to the superb Angels Landing. Pour me another Nestea and let me watch the sunset. Buy this you wont regret it.

Mine still has the 'Brit Awards Nominee' sticker on the front. I believe this got to number one in the charts, which was dead unprecedented for what was mostly a lot of multi-layered samples with some beats here and there. For some reason it all worked; I have heard bootlegs of the early sessions which led to this album, and there's no magic in the demos. The Orb's later albums were conceptually similar but uniformly rubbish. But U.F.Orb, whether because the band was going the extra mile, or because of some ineffable fairy dust, U.F.Orb actually worked, it was relaxing, funny, mesmerising, an excellent listen with headphones, as background music, and loudly to dance to in the bits which have beats.
