Music : Five Faces of Manfred Mann
This is probably my all time favourite album. It reflects the set list of the band when the were featuring at the Marquee Club. In those days they would perform a medley of their hit singles '..to get them out of the way' and then deliver their blues in a knockout way.

Music : Jazz Blues Fusion
First class entertainment. A vintage recording from a great era of
Live-album recordings. All in all this album represents a very fine
experimentation in hybrid musical style.
The interplay between trumpet and guitar is a major feature of the
recording coupled with great vocals and cool saxophone playing.
I would recommend this recording to anyone coming new to either
genre. It is also ideal listening for a Friday night or for
anybody just wanting to unwind.
The only drawback is that it is not a double album, otherwise
it is just another of the many examples of the British musical
invasion of American popular musical culture which took place
during the 1960s and early ... Read More:

I bought this against my better instincts. Like most who dabble with the electric guitar, I recognise Eric Clapton's unique contribution, even if at times it threatens to overshadow a host of other talented Blues guitarists. The arguments as to whether he's too rich and comfortable to play the Blues are irrelevant; money never blunted John Lee Hooker's style.

I'd suggest that Clapton produces his best playing for a mentor like John Mayall, or with musicians of equal calibre like Ginger Baker. On his own he seems to forget, as did so many of his contemporaries, that Blues is also supposed to be fun, i.e. something to make you happy. If you're not convinced, I suggest you buy any Albert Collins CD.

This was Rory's penultimate album, released in 1987, five years after his previous one. When compared to his output of at least one, and sometimes two albums a year in the seventies, it appears that the great guitarist was struggling creatively. However, it was more likely declining sales and corresponding problems with record companies that were the reason for the slumpin Rory's recorded output. He continued to tour relentlessly and live up to his deserved reputation as the 'hardest working musician in the business.' And unlike so many more celebrated performers Rory was a real musician if ever there was one.
I remember a friend playing me this when it was originally released on vinyl and to my shame I'd virtually forgotten about Rory. I was a fan as ... Read More:

The Pretty Things were no strangers to the various converted theatres, cinemas and hotels that made up the suite of studios in which the BBC recorded radio light entertainment shows, gardening forums, dance hall orchestras and rock bands.

In fact the earliest session here dates from October 1964, which coincides with the release of only their second single, Don't Bring Me Down. The five track session is included in full and includes Don't Bring Me Down, Big Boss Man (which had been the B-side of the first single) and R&B selections from their future first album, including two by Bo Diddley, from whose song Pretty Thing the band took their name. On the two singles session drummers had been employed, so here is a chance to hear the tunes performed ... Read More:

The Best Of John Mayall-Bluesbreakers is a great album for that hit of sixties blues music. It starts with the superb 'Crawling Up A Hill' and goes from strength to strength. You get examples of all the most famous guitarists he had playing with him and hear how tight his various bands were. John Mayall's Bluebreakers were the forming ground for many blues and rock artists of the time and his influence is well acknowledged by musicians and fans alike. This is a great starting place if you want to hear his style and sound and this album tends to be less expensive that 'The Essential' collection also available. If you like this you can progress to other classic albums by the band, as well as a live album, which is an important element of the overall feel of the ... Read More:

The great, career-spanning "Crossroads" compilation was a box set that appealed to both beginners and hardcore Clapton fanatics.
"Crossroads 2 - Live In The Seventies" mainly appeals to fanatics.

Spanning four discs and consisting almost entirely of live material (there are a handful of studio outtakes), this music will enthrall completists and archivists, who will find a wealth of compelling performances here. But they will also find a fair share of mediocre, uninspired tracks, and four versions of Robert Johnson's "Rambling On My Mind".
No-one needs four versions of "Rambling On My Mind" by the same artist on the same album. And two of them were recorded less than five months apart.

This is almost all slow blues and ballads, and ... Read More:

129.Best Of Jimi Hendrix by: Hendrix Jimi

Music : Best Of Jimi Hendrix
This is the best choice possible for only 20 songs. It is perfect for someone just getting in to Hendrix and wants to hear all of his most comercially succesful songs eg Hey Joe, Voodoo Child (slight return) and purple haze. It also has some underated Hendrix classics like if 6 was 9 and also Little wing. It also contains the brilliant cover version of a Bob Dylan song which you will probably know if you have heard of Hendrix which is All along the Watchtower. I could listen to this sond 10 times in a row and still would want to listen to it again. This pretty much goes for the album aswell.
It also has some of the best guitar solos ever recorded and if you are a guitarist then you will love this album even more than you think possible. If you have heard about Hendrix ... Read More:

For fans only. A collection of tracks from Green's Fleetwood and post-Fleetwood period. Not represented here is the Bluesbrakers period and neither his superb first soloalbum "The End of the game". Everything from after Fleetwood is mediocre : songs, performance and production. But the version of "Jumping at shadows" is stunning. A lot of money for that one track, but it's worth it.
