I wish I could start by giving this album more stars. As far as a Jimi Hendrix 'best of' goes, you can't do much better than this. One disc of his best known tracks and another of live and rarer music. The two sides to Jimi's music, the polished, yet still powerfully raw studio work and the soaring, imaginative and soul lifting live work. Hendrix was innovative and unique in his time and listening to his music you are struck again and again by the fact that he is still unsurpassed. His sound has been emulated (often poorly) but never bettered. 'All along the watchtower' and 'Voodoo Chile' start with full force and slap you in the face, where tracks like 'Angel' and 'Little Wing' lull you into his psychedelic, magical patchwork. If this was the best of Clapton then there would be none of his albums in my collection. No surprise to see Phil Collins was involved, this is Clapton sans fire, sans soul, sans almost everything. Despite his inconsistent output he has produced some magical albums from Mayall onwards, be picky there are much much better albums than this MOR, corporate moneygrabber.

Why is it when you tell the common-or-garden Rod Stewart fan that their idol sings on two of Jeff Beck's finest albums, they look at you as if you're the village idiot? Not that this album or 'Truth' need their sales to be increased by Rod's status in the band, but it's just that those people think you're having a laugh, when in fact you're trying to do them a favour. But never mind, it's their loss, and whilst Rod might be billed as 'vocalist extraordinaire,' he isn't the only 'name' on here, there's Ronny Wood and Nicky Hopkins, too; and Tony Newman was quite a well-renowned and straight-ahead rock drummer, too. New york new years eve the fillmore east 1969.Jimi Hendrix, Billy Cox, and Buddy Miles astound the crowd with blues rock fusion work outs ..there is another version of this live album and it has extra tracks well worth obtaining a copy..

I was very fortunate to have seen Rory live during his heyday and (as another reviewer has stated) I often felt he was far better live than in the studio and this album demonstrates that brilliance. This album is worth the price for the brilliant "Walk on hot coals" alone, great song and what a fantastic guitar solo ! If you love full throttle blues, then get this album.

I hadn't listened to anything by old slow hand in years, but I saw this CD going cheap and thought "why not?". All of the tracks on here are as fresh as the day they came out. Wonderful Tonight, Layla etc have all stood the test of time. Now I can't stop listening to it!

I have a few of Eric Clapton's albums plus a few he's recorded in other bands and 'Slowhand' typifies how frustrating he is. Rightly regarded as one of the greatest rock guitarists, he never seems to produce an album about which you can say, 'That's the one.' Instead, what you get are a handful of brilliant gems and an equal measure of forgettable, if competent, workouts. The three heavyweight tracks appear at the front of the album. 'Cocaine' has never been one of my favourite songs, but he does deliver it with impressive force. 'Wonderful Tonight' worked its way into the public consciousness over many years and is the kind of tender song that's difficult to pull off without sounding watery. In spite of an atrocious version of Oh no not my baby the Manfreds made important music.They would receive publishers demos of all the new Dylan songs becaue Dylan rated them. Doo Wah Diddy Diddy was I suppose the comedy side of a group who had started as The Mann Hugg Blues Brothers but they topped the U S chart with this one and it made more sense than their cover of Maxine Brown's uptown soul song. Spltting into other factions like Paul Jones' solo career the Earth Band and McGuiness Flint made sure that Manfred Mann was never forgotten. Though Manfred was not the singer another South African scored in the 70s -John Kongos-who was a singer It was I suppose a first time for a big selling band to replace its original singer and still score ... mindblowing. I bought this after seeing JB play live "What mama said" on Jules Holland. It is a brilliant CD,Jeff at his best - a mix of jazz, blues, hard hard rock - you just cant categorise it. BUY IT!!!!

This is just amazing Zep tunes and blues covers.played brilliantly and sung like only Chris can ,he does fit in very very well Page joined the Crows and we are so lucky it was recorded A BREATH of fresh air blowin through the ZEP material!!! Also being on stage with a group like this must take the pressure of Jimmy and he can then relax and just play. Im sure Page and maybe J P Jones will get a group like this and tour the world. Me I can not wait!!
