It was so good to hear this album which I had played to death on vinyl and after about 7 years of not hearing it I was so pleased that it had lost nothing of it's original appeal. I think the thing that appeals to me most is the production of the album which shows what a fantastic producer Russ Titleman is(just listen to Toto albums and you will see what I mean)and that really makes the difference for as much as I love EC I really miss the Titleman touch when you see him live. This album does stand the test of time and stands up very well against recent albums by Eric.

What can I say, except that I wholeheartedly agree with all the other reviewers! His other work is simply outstanding, but this is on another level entirely - I can't give it more than 5 stars - but I would if I could!

You may like Hendrix, Clapton, Beck and the others - but even some of them know Rory was 'The Man'!

My favourite is Whole Lot of People. The slide work on this song really does 'sing' like I've never heard since!

For those not quite sure on whether or not Eric Clapton is for you, then this album is a good place to start. The eleven tracks on this album from the 70's are indeed some of Clapton's greatest moments despite being during his torrid drug and alcohol abusing days. This is a excellent introduction to Clapton and after listening to it you should know whether the rock/blues style of Clapton is for you. For those who already appreciate Clapton's genius and wish to have a comprehensive compilation album, then you may wish to give "The Cream of Clapton" a listen - it has 19 tracks, 8 more than this album. Cream of Clapton also encompasses some of his Cream hits and includes hits from the 60's-80's. However his most successful and critically aclaimed ... Read More:

This GREAT "CANNED HEAT" CD starts with the 7 MINUTE & 5 seconds demo of "ON THE ROAD AGAIN" recorded on 17th & 18th April 1967 a year & half before the later version was in the charts worldwide.

Reading a book on the blues, I came across Johnny Winter, who is regarded as one of the greatest slide guitar players that has ever lived. Never having heard him before, I bought a copy of this CD on the strength of that comment. Awesome is the best word to describe Johnny's playing, whether on electric or acoustic guitar, and this album shows him at his best. I cant even begin to dream of being able to play guitar like he does on "Dallas", an awesome example of slide on his steel National. How many fingers does this man have? Vocals is not Johnny's strongest suit, and may be an acquired taste, but his guitar playing outweighs this flaw. Being first released in the late 60s on vinyl, the only down side is the comparatively short playing time (45 mins ... Read More:

This may not be Clapton's finest hour as a guitar player. But amongst the post 'God' collections of shall we say Laid Back Clapton, this could well be the finest. It is such a pleasure to listen to this album...pretty damn consistent in its quality...and although no guitar heroics here, there are some songs which remain my favourite in his entire back catalogue. He is of course helped by having Bob Dylan contribute two songs here, the sublime opener 'Walk Out In The Rain' and the rocking opener to side 2 (vinyl) 'If I Don't Be There By Morning'. One can imagine Claptons's joy at hearing the demos sent to him by Dylan. And apparently he was offered four songs. What happened to the other two? As far as I know they have never surfaced. Maybe they were crap. ... Read More:

Although Janis Joplin's genius shines through all of these tracks, the selection is inadequate. An album with a title like greatest hits needs to contain Combination Of The Two (from Cheap Thrills, with Big Brother and the Holding Company) and Joplin's version of the Bee Gees' To Love Somebody (from Kozmic Blues).

Luckily there are more comprehensive compilations available, and this album would do as an introduction to the Joplin novice. It contains the impressive acid rock onslaught of Piece Of My Heart, the original version of the timeless Me And Bobby McGee (a huge posthumous hit for her in 1971), the wrenching Maybe from Kozmic Blues and her popular novelty song Mercedes Benz.

Most of the tracks are from Pearl and while I love all of them, especially ... Read More:

I consider this album very under-rated. If it is atypical of Clapton, then all the better for it. The highlight of the album for me is "sign language", the Dylan collaboration but the laid back "black summer rain" is a superb track, laid back Clapton at his best. "Hello old friend" was a successful single and again, it's a fine track.

Double trouble doesn't really pull it off for me. Some may like it and it's not a bad track, just done better by others.

Carnival is a bit of fun but not a bad track nonetheless. The other tracks are ok and generally the whole album is worth a listen.

It seems that the best tracks on this are the Clapton originals and the Clapton / Dylan collaboration. It's a shame that EC couldn't write some more original material ... Read More:

This is a superior "best of" album, and you should get it for the bonus Live disc 2, capturing Gary on the Still Got the Blues and After Hours tours in the early 90s.

The live disc features a tremendous performance of Stormy Monday with Albert King, and the performances of Texas Strut, Moving On, Still Got the Blues and Midnight Blues are superior to the original album versions.

Great album

The Pretty Things' 1968 album "S.F. Sorrow" did not cause much attention when it was originally released.

The band had already shown, with their previous album "Emotions", that they wanted to explore new grounds, and that they felt that the r&b concept was too limited for them.

"Emotions" showed that the band possesed excellent songwriters in Wally Allen, Phil May and Dick Taylor. Unfortunately the production of that album was not too successful; at least at the time it was considered as some kind of a "disaster".

This is not the case with the follow-up album "S.F. Sorrow". The sound is great and Norman Smith's production captured the new psychedelic sounds and trends of the late 1960's perfectly.

"S.F. Sorrow" is a concept album, which tells ... Read More:
