this Film soundtrack is surely some of the most sublime, brilliant, purely emotional guitar you will ever hear Eric Clapton play. The critics seemed to completely miss this one - it sort of got lost because Unplugged came out at the same time. The final track is a bit commercial (Tears in Heaven) but it got the airplay and caught everyone's ear ... the rest of this album is ESSENTIAL if you like Clapton.

82.Jeff Beck's Guitar Shop by: Jeff Beck

Music : Jeff Beck's Guitar Shop
The only criticism of Jeff Beck's 1970s masterpieces -- BLOW BY BLOW and WIRED -- is the absence of his own compositions. Here, without George Martin or Narada Michael Walden, he has a go. You can't hate them, but there's little to love in these mediocre tunes. Track #5, for instance, is a virtual copy of anything from Terje Rypdal's 1977 opus, AFTER THE RAIN, but just 12 years late.

But like much of Bill Bruford's work of the 1980s, the biggest sin committed on this album is the electronic drum sound. I just can't believe this is the same Terry Bozzio who was so key to the success of Frank Zappa's ZOOT ALLURES and BONGO FURY. An incredible disappointment.

If you think you really might enjoy this album, the best ... Read More:

Three albums mark the zenith of Manfred Mann's career, these being "the Roaring Silence", "Angel Station" and "Watch". These are the post- do-wah-diddy era and all the better for it. I would agree that Chris Thompson is the finest of the Mann vocalists and by some margin.

There isn't a duff track on this album and the added bonus tracks at the end are well worth it. This is one of my favourite albums having originally be bought on black vinyl (I've still got it) and living on tape in my car at university in the late 70s / early 80s and for several years afterwards.

This is a must-have rock album classic.

This is not elevator music, rather a smooth almost jazz like sound track that catches the mood of London in the late sixties.
There is a catchy melody that becomes the theme (sound track or concept album) different songs return to this melody tieing it all together, this is a really good album to mellow out to - years ago I worked in a second hand record shop and every morning I'd put this album on first thing while opening the shop, and I never grew tired of it, there is variation of music styles and although Dennis Waterman graces the cover we are relieved of the agony of hearing him sing - I'll be so good for you!

I have all Rory Gallagher's solo albums and with his former band Taste. They are all brilliant and in my opinion this one is the cream of the crop. It has absolutely everything you would expect from this superb performer.

If you don't have at least one Jimi Hendrix album in your CD collection, you really need to rethink your musical priorities. I don't think I need to explain the revolutionary legacy of Hendrix to anyone, so I'll just get right to the content on this particular CD. The year was 1967, and Hendrix's career had just blasted off in the UK, when The Jimi Hendrix Experience (Hendrix, Noel Redding, and Mitch Mitchell) came together for several recording sessions for BBC Radio. You will find a number of Hendrix's most memorable songs in this collection, but they differ from the versions most fans are familiar with. Alongside these more familiar tracks are a number of very interesting covers and blues-oriented recordings, a few of which could and should be ... Read More:

Clapton makes a memorable start with 'I shot the Sheriff' - but then his list of late 70's - 80's stuff sounds dull and album lapses into boredom. Redemption comes however from the Cream recordings, 'Layla' and 'Cocaine'. These tracks remind us there is still life in E.C. despite a poor 80's record, and such classics as Sunshine of Your Love, Tales of Brave Ulysses, Badge and Croosroads remind us of Cream's anthemic playing and the ways they combined guitar with wah-wah pedals and phsychedelic sound to produce music before its time rightly rewards them with their role as 'the first of the supergroups.' Oh, and there's Layla of course.
