Music : This Are Two Tone
Released by Chrysalis as a stopgap album whilst Jerry Dammers and the rump of The Special AKA struggled to complete `In the Studio'; `This Are Two Tone' effectively collects the single releases of the seminal label and serves as an early history of glories past.

The story is maintained by the improved chronology of the play list, `Ghost Town' the final Specials number one single is moved until last and some of the over songs are mixed up to ensure no band plays consecutive numbers.

The album opens with the first Two Tone single `Gangsters' by The Specials and moves forward with the b-side of the debut Madness single, `Madness'. The debut singles of The Selecter, The Beat and The Bodysnatchers together with the first ... Read More:

I waited ages to get this c.d.--- and the track i really wanted isn't on it -- ( Rise above it) it's on other similarly packaged versions but not on mine ... there are also tracks on it that i don't even remember from the film and i've seent that film dozens of times .. and sorry Worl-a-Girl -- the actors version of The Jamaican Bobsled chant is much better than yours ...the instrumentals are good though but all in all - i found it disappointing and wished i'd got the 12 track version of this cd ....

An outstanding CD and recording of the score to the movie. The booklet contained inside is informative and detailed, discussing separately each of the tracks in relation to the film as well as some detailed insights into what the motifs in the music was intended by Herrmann to convey and how they are used to foreshadow events in the film. (particularly the mother's three note theme)

This was an impulse purchase for me but I'm so very glad I bought it.

40 tracks makes this about as comprehensive as it gets and a good investment, most however are quite short ranging from single motiffs to several minutes of actual score music. But I was listening to this last night, and the music brings back the movie so vividly I cannot ... Read More:

39.Africa Must Be Free by 1983 by: Hugh Mundell

Music : Africa Must Be Free by 1983

Jamaican artist Hugh Mundell wrote and recorded most of this album when he was 16 and 17. Sadly, Mundell was shot dead in a pointless argument in 1983. He was 21. Thirty years on, the production seems unsophisticated even though various reggae luminaries such as Robbie Shakespeare, Augustus Pablo and Jacob Miller were involved. But there's some absolutely great material here; the enthusiasm , the heartfelt naivety displayed in tracks such as `Lets All Unite', Africa must be Free by the year 1983', `Why Do Black Men Fuss and Fight', `Run Revolution A Come', show case the mergence of Rastafarian beliefs and radical politics which often appeared in late 1970's reggae . `Day of Judgement' and `Jah Will Provide' are full blown Rasta hymns. The additional ... Read More:

40.Skynyrd Frynds by: Lynyrd Skynyrd
March 02, 1995
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Music : Skynyrd Frynds
As country tribute albums became common in the nineties, it was no surprise to see one devoted to Lynyrd Skynyrd, perhaps the best of the southern rock bands that emerged in the seventies.

Least surprising of all is that Alabama (the group) chose to record Sweet home Alabama, a song that really encapsulates the appeal of Lynyrd Skynyrd. Hank Williams Junior contributed Tuesday’s gone, but while the other tracks here were recorded especially for this project, Hank’s track was simply lifted from his Wild streak album of the late eighties. Wynonna does a fine version of Free bird, while Charlie Daniels digs deeper into the Skynyrd repertoire to cover One more time – not one of their famous songs, but Charlie chose wisely.
