Sincere, fun; many emotions come to mind, but all in all it is such a pleasure listening to the 1st solo album of the very gifted, young, jazz trumpet player Paschal Ohsé ( Soel is the artist name ). It has apprently taken about 5 years to get it out, how nice that it can even be heard here in Denmark, where "Le Vicomte" has been played on the radio.

Brand New Heavies classic album Brother, Sister wasn't a fluke hit. This band are good, and this CD shows why! From catchy disco-pop tunes to nasty funk jams, this CD was definately the precussor to the classic Brother, Sister. Dream Come True, Stay This Way and Ride In The Sky all sound like they could have been part of Brother, Sister, and some of the jams (Gimme One of Those and Sphynx) are just a treat! Perhaps not as focused as Brother, Sister, this CD is non-the-less a classic jazz/funk album, and for anyone that likes BNH or has heard Midnight At The Oasis on the radio, you are gonna enjoy this a lot!

Hidden in amongst the recent avalanche of "chill out" and "jazz café" albums - many of which should be filed under "distinctly boring" - is this French release put together by Olivier Delachanal & Fabien Barrau. Bravely sub-titled as "the finest electro-jazz compilation" it is in fact pretty close to what it claims: virtually all of the selections are first rate, most are difficult to get hold of and - here's the trick that so many compiler's miss - the whole set fits together as a seamless whole. Exhibiting on the way through more than enough real treats to show exactly what modern electro-jazz can deliver, it just rolls along leaving you itching to hit the replay button. Re-file under "addictively good".
