This is by far the best album Jamiroquai have written. It came at a time when Jamiroquai had it's finest line-up of band members inc Jay, Toby, Wallis & Stuart. This album builds on Emergency On Planet Earth's Acid Jazz vibes and takes it to another level. Many of the tracks are very mellow, but in Scam and Just Another Story we hear some real serious, almost angry, funk. This album also includes perhaps the most classic Jamiroquai track: Space Cowboy, available here in it's full album version glory -far more musically interesting than the somewhat more radio friendly version that was released as a single. This album also includes one of the finest performances of the genre on bass guitar by Stuart Zender. If you are a music lover and like ... Read More:

While Thievery Corporation's first full album is less sophisticated than their later outings its rawer, less "crafted" style means that its best tracks have a distinctly more exciting edge. "The Glass Bead Game", "So Vast is the Sky" and ".38.45" just jump out of the speakers with their highly infectious mix of electronica, hip-hop & dub while "Shaolin Satellite's" drivingly addictive beats and multi-layered swathes of organs & sitars put it up there with the very best of the whole electronica/dance scene. Others drift, often much too languidly, between genres giving a rambling and disjointed feel to the album as a whole but, if you're a fan of Thievery Corporation or of high quality downbeat "world" music then what's good on it is too good to miss. ... This is not a terrible album, but, unless you are a die-hard Jamiroquai fan, I'd buy another of their albums instead. (Or even a different band's album for that matter!)Most of this sounds like lesser quality re-hashed numbers and far too much of it reminds me of 80's disco - and that should be a sound none of us have inflicted on us again! All in all a rather mediocre album which, sadly, doesn't live up to its name.

"Positivty" is probably the best Acid-Jazz album ever recorded. It combines smooth, jazzy beats with soul, funk and dance music. Maysa Leak's vocals are truly splendid, and add to the beauty of the album. Generally, the album is brilliant, but there are a few tracks which stick out, namely:
Still a Friend of Mine- This brilliant song features an acapella breakdown which gives the listener the chance to hear Maysa's vocals devoid of all instruments and backing music- an absoulte treat!

Positivity- Possibly my favourite track on the album. It really is a gem, and NEEDS to be listened to if you are feeling down or depressed: honestly, it literally lifts you up!

Deep Water- Is a beautiful Jazz ballad that sets a very romantic scene. I've heard this ... Read More:

This was always one of my favourite mid-90s albums, but it was more or less overlooked at the time, and even now I don't think Red Snapper have ever been particularly well-known. This is a pity, because Prince Blimey is a superb album. Its organic blend of jazz, funk, ambient and mid-90s break-beats has aged extremely well indeed, and, despite being a predominantly instrumental album, it deserves to be ranked alongside sample-heavy classics of the era such as Exit Planet Dust, Maxinquaye and Endtroducing DJ Shadow.

Despite the fact that the tracks are quite sparse- structured around Ali Friend's throbbing double bass and Richard Thair's stridently funky drumming- the smoky, atmospheric sound is both varied and textured, through the judicious use of samples, as ... Read More:

This CD came highly recommended by friends and here on amazon. I've given this a month of playing but have decided I can no longer put up with it.The hitherto unreleased tracks from Beck and Bjork would have been better remaining just that, they are both utterly depressing. Roots Manuva track is just appalling, the only glimmer of hope on the whole double Cd in my view is the Fat Freddys Drop track. The rest of the content is filler to my ears.
I have about a thousand CDs and vinyl in my collection and this for my money rates in the bottom 10 % and will never buy anything with the GP name attached. My collection goes back many years and during the oil crisis a few years back an album like this would have been seen as a waste of the worlds finite resources. Could be my loss....... ... Read More:

I like Saint Gemain a lot but this album did nothing for me and came as a big comedown compared to Tourist and Des Pres Cafe Vol.3. The sound quality was also a little too harsh and saturated and the bass level is far too high. It lacks tunefulness and becomes too much like hard work to list too.

I recently dug this out for a re-listen, and must say I don't think its aged particuarly well.
The good points are, you get 15 tracks, with 3 excellent tracks (Dream on Dreamer, Midnight at the Oasis, and Brother Sister), and a consistent sound across all the tracks.

The bad aspect is that I feel that the sound itself has aged, sounding quite overproduced to these 2007 ears, and those three tracks aside, the album has a bit of a sameness to it - not enough stands out.

Only for fans of the acid jazz, funk genre I would say.
