I'm a massive fan of this sort of sound and Greyboy leads the way when it comes to soulful funk. His beats and mixes are bliss, however, the biggest issue I have with this album is the recording quality. The album comes with a warning 'due to live recording there may be some sound issues'. I'm not sure where the problem lies though it sounds as though the recording is not direct from the decks. Instead it comes across as though someone has held a mic next to a speaker! Would recommend if your open minded enough to block out the annoying clicking noises in the background. Can definetly recommend the artist.

Put quite simply this is an 'AWESOME' album getting a deserved CD release by BIG BEAT.The escalators featured two of the origenal members of Psychobilly giants THE METEORS,messers NIGEL LEWIS and MARK ROBERTSON way back in 1983(although the origenal Meteors also used the name for an 'undecover' 7'' EP release back in 1981 as THE CLAPHAM SOUTH ESCALATORS).Also in the band was another ex member of The Meteors WOODIE who origenaly replaced Mark Robertson in 1982.The band is completed by BART COLES.Comparisons with The Meteors carnt be helped and like the origenal line-up your getting 'two groups in one' that is vocal duties are shared from track to track by Nigel and Bart(as they were by Nigel and P.Paul Fenech in the Meteors).Although the music isnt ... If your honest, there are few albums that you listen to time and time again. This is one of those albums I never tire of listening too. I love Ronny Jordans music and Dj Krush's Zen is great but together something special was created.
A short album, but as soon as it's finished spinning you will want to play it again. I never tire of trying to sell this album to my friends and without exception they all share my views on this excellent album.

I bought this in the US, with excitment of a new DTTB album, as I've been to see them live twice and love the music these guys make. On listening to this album, I was somewhat dissappointed. It has turned into what I can describe as "wallpaper" music. It's list the "wow" that made DTTB stand out in the crowd. Before, the soloists were the band, ie the played all the harmonies and riffs then did their solos. Now they are only on as soloists and have a brass trio to play...Each track seems to have a different set of performers, and the solos just arn't catchy as they used to be...The main keyboard player Neil Angilley has also gone who I think was the driving force behind the fantastic writing and live improvisations (only writing/appearing on one track). ... if you have heard any of the other United Future Organisation (UFO) albums or tracs, you will know the level of quality to expect from this veteran japanese acid jazz outfit. i have been collecting their music for some time now and was delighted when i got hold of a japanese import of this lp last year. it features some incredible tracks like 'esperenza', jon lucien's 'listen love' and my favourite, 'no problem' featuring jazz vocal legend mark murphy.

there are some strange tracks that if the album is listened to as a whole, fit in, but if you are moving around the cd, they just sound like fillers. on the whole the album hangs together well and has a definite part to play in the modern acid jazz scene. apart from anything else, the artwork ... Picture the scene if you will. I'm in the Virgin Megastore in Times Square New York City, trying to meet my fix for Music (feening!) Whilst looking in the jazz section I find my self jigging along to the Cd being played in the back ground. Whilst seeking some advice from an employee of said establishment I asked' Who is this playing?' I was then directed to this CD. Whilst being one of the newer acts of the newly re-formed Stax label, I assume (wrongly) that this was their first CD. I really should have known better, as their playing sounds tight like a group that has been together for a while.
What of the CD itself. Just listening to it makes me yearn to hear these Boys live (Instrumental grooves like Outrage & Bubble really pour it on)
