Music : The Karma Collection
I picked up this double CD on the basis that just about every Ministry collection I've bought was pretty good. I wanted something a little more 'spiritual' than all the other soft-trance/world-music stuff that has flooded the market and thought that Ministry would do a good job. Well, I'm so glad that I had faith because we play it regularly and never seem to tire of it. It's the right vibe for just about every occasion from dinner party to chillout. I particularly like the second CD and must confess that we play it in preference to the first. Across the spectrum from the haunting Caislean Oir (Clannad) to the soulful Rah (Natacha Atlas) and the very danceable Touareg (Le Duc) it all in all makes for very enjoyable listening that you'll play ... 33.Shelter by: Brand New Heavies

Music : Shelter
This album paved the way for acid jazz and funk-fusion to become popular in the mainstream charts. With the success of it's predecessor, 'Brother,Sister' the Heavies latched onto a successful formula. The stunning vocals alongside phat baselines ensure that this feel-good album remains on your playlist forever! 'You've Got a friend' is a classic gospel track that has been re-worked powerfully and has got to be the most outstanding track for me. There're countless other outstanding tracks, such as 'Shelter', 'Highest High' and 'You Are The Universe.' The tunes are proud and extremely danceable - I defy anyone not to groove to the beat! An excellent album, not to be missed!

This is a really excellent introduction to the Acid Jazz sound and the pioneering label of the same name (founded in the late 1980s and ultra cool in the early-2-mid 1990s) - the two are the same thing: there was only ever one true home!

The selection of tracks is spot-on: it contains a good overview of the key artists in the genre.

The inlay sleeve doubles up as a fold-out 'career map' of the Acid Jazz label. This is a really nice touch for a mid-price release.

If you're a newcomer to 'Acid Jazz', you'd do far worse than to start here! At well under a tenner this is a great investment and sound addition to the collection of any open-minded music fan.

I think everyone found the previous release, Jump Leads, a bit TOO smooth for their liking. I have to admit, I'd been snapping up all Fila releases up until that point but just wasn't feeling it.

Seems like Phoebus Brumal is the complete anti-Jump Leads. The slick smooth funk is out the window, to be replaced by some seriously perky upbeat tracks. The mood of the album is similar to the uptempo disc of Brazilification 2.

Plenty of energy and vibrancy in all of the tracks on offer, however I still don't have those special stand out moments as when I'm listening to Maim That Tune, Powerclown or Braziliafication 1, but I'm glad to see that these guys are still firing these albums out AND contantly changing and shifting their sound.

This is an interesting album which works on a number of levels. It is an effective atmospheric latin-tinged accompaniment to a dinner party which will not provoke complaints from non-jazz fans. If more concentrated listening is your thing it contains enough quality jazz musianship to satisfy post-bop jazz enthusiasts. It will also appeal to younger listeners more accustomed to DJ manufactured jazz grooves and it is nice to drive to.
I enjoy most types of jazz but prefer music that challenges me a bit. I tend to get bored quickly with stuff that lacks depth. I am still finding new things to enjoy in this album after a few months of listening. One or two tracks are a little on the pedestrian side but overall it is worth shelling out the cash for. I can understand ... Read More:

An effortless mix of Club, Soul and Hip Hop blended to make an awesome new sound. Especially love "Afro Love Forest" featuring Kinny, another awesome artist who's definately worth checking out! Definately worth buying this album...it won't dissappoint!
