Rob Garza and Eric Hilton dig into their music collection (a rather eclectic one, apparently), and throw together 20 tracks for "The Outernational Sound," a gumbo pot of mellowed out grooves that will satisfy any set of tastebuds. The range of textures and moods runs all over the globe, from Indian influences ("Mathar" by Indian Vibes), old-school American funk (Major Force's "Re-return of the Original Artform"), Latin grooves ("Simbarere" by Antonio Carlos Jocafi), as well as chilled cafe lounge, African rhythms, and a dash of Asian influences. I bought this and there more recent album `bon voyage` at around the same time from the used & new on amazon.This was only on the strength of the reviews i`d read,think i was expecting something similar to `the cinematic orchestra` (one of,if not my all time favourite group),any how `3rd perspective` arrived first and as with all great albums i was initially disappointed,that is except for one song,the sublime `friends-we`ll be`.Then `bon voyage` arrived and after about a month or so of listening to both this one is by far the winner,every track,i find myself thinking how could i possibly of disliked any of this album.At the end of the day they are both fine albums but if you can only afford one trust a man of music and buy this,even if you don`t ... If you like hip-hop instrumentals or laidback house then this is the album for you. Of the series, Volume 2 is by far the best. However every disc in the series is worth having in your collection. This album is uplifting and will put a smile on your face. Mark Farina, who is also known for his mixing of deep house really shows what a good dj he is. He scratches and mixes beautifully on this cd. A few of the mixes are a tad loose, but then this is more hip-hop than house. My second favourite in the series is volume 3. (I am awaiting volume 4 so cannot rate that either way yet).

This product contains 3cds in beautiful and robust packaging. You get both of the original albums ('the facts and the dreams' and 'voices from the dust bowl') along with a 3rd CD of remixes, both Fragile State remixes and remixes of Fragile State tunes by industry heavyweights like 4Hero, Future Loop Foundation and Digitonal. I've separated this review into two parts: 1) If you don't own any Fragile State music Fragile State produce beautiful and funky chilled out goodness. Their tunes have a sweeping orchestral feel to them yet contain funky keyboard effects and beats which keep you nodding your head along to the tunes.
