51.The Quiet Revolution by: Ronny Jordan
February 02, 1998
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

>>More Details
Music : The Quiet Revolution
Mr Jordan's second venture and it is a lot more funky than his first album (The antidote). The first track 'Season for change' sets high expectations of the album. The next few tracks certainly excite and then comes the well known `The Jackal'. After that the album seems to trail off a touch. I became a big fan of Ronny Jordan after his first album and this one is very good. I have even had the pleasure of seeing him live. This album gets four stars because it starts off amazingly well and then looses its edge towards the end.

That's the Way of the World and Everybody Loves the Sunshine are two of my all-time favourite songs. In the hands of almost anybody else, I'd have been horrified to hear that someone was trying to produce a cover of either....

....but this is Bluey and Incognito, so all bets are off.

For the most part, I consider those late 70s Earth Wind & Fire tracks to be just about perfect. Trying to cover or remix them is a bit like drawing a moustache on the Mona Lisa. Yet Incognito's cover of That's the Way of the World somehow manages to simplify the arrangement without losing anything of the subtle groove. And the last few bars, with Matt Cooper's Rhodes and Andy Ross's flute, just make the hairs on the back of my neck ... Read More:

I mean that literally folks - I have my fair share of acid jazz standards (Brand New Heavies, JTQ, Incognito, Mother Earth et al) but I have to say that Dad Man Cat DEFINES acid jazz: If someone asked me what 'acid jazz' sounds like (at its very best), I'd play them this album.

The musicianship is superb - I'm a bass player and Richard Searle's work on bass is busy and groovy with some outstanding walking basslines. There's great Hammond work, some superb 70s cop theme clavinets, tight drumming, nice wah-wah. Many of the instrumentals are outrageously and hilariously cheesy - they sound like a cross between the theme from the Red Hand Gang and hardcore porno soundtracks - but *every one* of the tracks is very ... I got a copy of this from Virgin on the highstreet a week ago so not sure why its down as 14th of November for release. Anyhow, Its a fine selection of tracks once again with recent stuff from Big Bang, Deisler, Gerardo Frisina, Koop and Kinny & Horne to name but a few. I really enjoy these cd's as I normally buy vinyl only. So I get to hear the tracks I have on vinyl in the car and on the MP3 player. If you liked any of the previous seven cd's in the series you'll enjoy this. Big names and big tracks. And as with the previous title there is a bonus cd. This time concentrating on French in Nu-Jazz, this one is particually mellow and good for rainy afternoons and coffee.

Sincere, fun; many emotions come to mind, but all in all it is such a pleasure listening to the 1st solo album of the very gifted, young, jazz trumpet player Paschal Ohsé ( Soel is the artist name ).

It has apprently taken about 5 years to get it out, how nice that it can even be heard here in Denmark, where "Le Vicomte" has been played on the radio.

This is an excellent album. Rarely have I purchased an album where every single song is execellent, my Daughter even likes it and she is very hard to please and only likes mellow slow soul.

If you like smooth music for entertaining then this is it.

The songs are also catchy.

Fantastic. My first introduction into the world of Jazzanova and it won't be my last. Innovative, interesting, soulful and seriously cool. One of those albums that just keeps getting better with each listening.

But hey, what do I know? Hear for yourself.
