I own the film soundtrack and this original cast recording version. I've seen the show 4 times now and this CD brings back the memories; the Overture does give you goose bumps and from this recording you get the flavour of the theatre experience.

When sung well, as they are in this case, 'Music of the Night' and 'All I Ask of You' are very moving. Sarah Brightman is the star of the original show as her voice is truly moving. I've always been skeptical about Michael Crawford, although his signing is excellent, I don't think brings the true gravitas of the character of the Phantom all that well.
I do like his interpretation of 'Music of the Night' though.

I've always preferred a Phantom that doesn't have too ... Read More:

This is the best album I've heard in ages! Being a collection spanning Jimy Somemrville's career, it is a real mixture of old favourites and some less well known tracks. To be played loudly at all times and singing along is a must.

As per most of the other reviews of this CD it's a good compilation, for a ridiculously cheap price, however i really only bought this CD for "Solitary Man" and "Girl, you'll be a woman soon". Sadly both tracks are taken from the Live album "Hot August Night", though this is not indicated by the usual "(Live)" on the track listing. So be warned, if you want studio versions of these or "Kentucky woman" which is taken from the album "Gold-Live" look elsewhere.

i grew up in the next village to these boys and their first album is annd always will be,there on my top five must haves. like so many othere one-hit wonders, they have proved over the years that they peaked with the first absolutely magic album , and then the rot set in. this album no longer is filled with creative lyrics and must listen to riffs, other than bartender and takes clothes off. this is just dross and fluff for fans who know no better to listen to and pretend they love it. sorry boys , its time to let it go now before the real damage to your reputations is done.

If you were born in the late 1940's to early 1950's then you will be more than familiar with Dusty Springfield. She was on TV more than most, (and we only had 3 channels), and out of the 21 tracks on here virtually every one of them was a single. It's one of those great CD's where, even if you have a lousy voice, you put it on and find yourself singing along. Dusty may have been more for Mum's and Dad's at the time, but growing up when her hits were around, I find I enjoy this album more now than ever before. Nostalgia. That's what it is. And Dusty's unique voice is better than any around today!

Yes, Johnny Cash was obviously ailing when he performed these songs, no, it makes absolutely no difference. The power is there, the sheer aura of the man is there, his outstanding ability to take the simplest song and make it special. Yes, Trent Rezner 'took back' his song 'Hurt' at the Reading Festival but no, he hasn't entirely regained his crown. Johnny Cash's rendition of the song is still heartbreaking. It brought tears the first time I played it.
Brilliant album. Buy it. Love it. Treasure it. They don't come better than this.

I bought this based on great reviews by other Amazon users and friend recommendations. They had been likened to the Editors by my friends but the songwriting and arrangements of instruments are just too short of the mark. It's ok but nowhere near 5 stars. It's melodic to a point but as a 5 star album it falls short. It has something and I would probably enjoy a listen in 2 years time, but repeated listening leaves me cold. The songs are bland, no risks are taken and it left me flat. 5 Stars it is not.

I loved Kate's music from One Tree Hill but had no idea just how talented she is.

I was going to but this album via US Imprt but decided to wait until we came to america on holiday (i know this is random but go with it) it's our 3rd day, i bought the album on the 1st day and it has been on constantly since we've been here it's amazing.

I am having a lot of dilemmas in my life (nothing too depressing) but this has spoken to me in so many ways i love it and totally recommend it!!

Like a lot of people I was very hesitant as to whether 9 would live up to its predecessor and had to give it a few listens before I could pass judgement. Although in some aspects it is similar to O- "Dogs" possesses an innocence that would fit nicely with Damien's first album- to me it seems a lot more mature and some of the perfect, beautiful lyrics have been replaced with some more realistic and matter-of-fact ones which are actually just as powerful. For example the chorus of Rootless Tree (which involves a lot of swearing) to me is incredibly realistic and almost like a converstaion- "so * you and all we've been through, I said leave it, it's nothing to you, and if you hate me then hate me so good that you can let me out of this hell when you're around". Its impossible to say ... Read More:
