The Hunchback of Notre Dame is a 5 star album displaying once again Menken's talents. The music can be enjoyed by child fans of the movie and adult music lovers, although I feel some messages in the songs are too heavy for young children. The music has a catholic choral style (as some is in latin) as well as a gypsy bohemian theme contrasting. 'Hell fire' is a passionate song of lust with a heavy theme on the morals surrounding gypsys, witchcraft, church and the law. But the right message is sent out in the ballad 'God help the outcasts'. The music brilliantly describes the time and feel of Victor Hugo's epic novel with a touch of comedy in the talking gargoyles. This c.d is fabulous!

My kids are hardcore fans of Barney T.V show. I thought this CD would be right along their alley. It was love at first sight for my five yaer old kids. It starts with the frightfully jolly Barney theme song, and ends with the emotional I love you. it is a rollercoaster ride of fun and games, and you'll be humming along to it in no time. The standout tracks are definately the reassuring "my family's just right for me", the bouncy tune of "the ants go marching" and the frankly rather disturbing but still very jolly "do your ears hang low". There are disapointments including the rather cliched alphabet song and the rather repetitive Itsy Bitsy Spider. The rather symplistic lyrics aside this is good clean fun for all ... Read More:

Together they provide a truly comprehensive survey of singing right through the age of recording up to the early days of the LP. Sadly, to the best of my knowledge, only Volumes 3 & 4 have appeared on CD - the very earliest era of recording and the period up to the introduction of electrical recording methods that were originally on Volumes 1 and 2 really deserve to be heard again. I ordered this recording the other week. Disney is known for its award-winning soundtracks anyway (or it used to be until the 90s), but the soundtrack for The Little Mermaid has to be their best work. It's Alan Menken at his best. Jodi Benson is absolutely gorgeous as Ariel. The most memorable songs have to be 'Part of Your World', 'Part of Your World Reprise' and 'Under the Sea'. This may be obvious to some people, but the songs on this soundtrack are meant to stand by themselves, i.e. certain dialogues that are part of the songs in the movie may be missing here. CD 1 definitely gets 5 stars from me! As for CD 2, this one mainly features cover versions. Generally, I think there can't be enough cover versions of ... Read More:

I challenge anyone to sit down and listen to this CD. It's made for dancing! It has some real 70's classics, mixed with some less well known Muppet tunes (just as funky!). I saw the film, laughed till I felt sick (out-takes on DVD are hysterical) and knew I had no choice but to buy the soundtrack. Apologise to the neighbours, put your shades on, turn it up and let loose... I guarantee it'll put a smile on your face.
