Although the events of this film sit within the time-scale of the original, it is an interesting exploration of some of the untouched themes from its predecessor.

The Beast's dislike of Christmas is assumed by the audience to be simple 'Scrooge'-ism. As the story unfolds, we discover a deeper, more personal rationale for his aversion.

The addition of new characters - Forte (voiced by Tim Curry) and Fife (Paul Reubens - aka Pee-Wee Herman) - gives the story room to expand.

Ultimately, though, this one is strictly for the real fans - or at least, completists! :)

I ordered this recording the other week. Disney is known for its award-winning soundtracks anyway (or it used to be until the 90s), but the soundtrack for The Little Mermaid has to be their best work. It's Alan Menken at his best.
Jodi Benson is absolutely gorgeous as Ariel. The most memorable songs have to be 'Part of Your World', 'Part of Your World Reprise' and 'Under the Sea'.
This may be obvious to some people, but the songs on this soundtrack are meant to stand by themselves, i.e. certain dialogues that are part of the songs in the movie may be missing here.
CD 1 definitely gets 5 stars from me!

As for CD 2, this one mainly features cover versions. Generally, I think there can't be enough cover versions of good ... Read More:

This was back in the day when Disney were great: when the films had great stories to tell, when the characters were heroes and heriones and when the soundtracks had you singing along.
And this soundtrack really does make you sing (even if, like me, you're terrible). I mean, who in the English speaking world doesn't know at least the chorus to Colours Of The Wind?
But aside from being really catchy, Disney do what they did best and make sure that moral messages are conveyed throught he tracks too. Take Colours Of The Wind, for example. Lines like "You think the only people who are people are the people who look and think like you" really hammer home the message that Disney are getting at in this film, and it's not kiddies stuff, this ... I watch the film on DVD and looked everywhere for the sound track because I loved it so much. The CD has every fully length versions of the songs from the film. My favoured is the 1st song on the CD called Reach by Caleigh Peters. It's nothing like the S*Club 7 song under the same name. It's really rocky and I love it. Get Your Shine On by Jesse McCartney is also on the Kim Possible Movie So The Dramas sound track too and I kinder like the song but not one of my favourites. The CD on whole is brilliant and it really aimed at teenagers. I can't keep it out of my CD player as I love the songs on the CD.
