Music : Holy Harmony
There is evidence that sacred sound in the form of pure sounds, music, song and chant has been applied as medicine from ancient times. Some consider it the most ancient of all therapies. Pythagoras was aware of this. Others who wrote about the therapeutic effect of music on the soul include the Persian scholar Abu Nasr al-Farabi (872 - 951) who discussed music therapy in his book Meanings of the Intellect and Robert Burton in his extraordinary tome The Anatomy of Melancholy (1621).

The subtitle of this sonic masterpiece is Healing Code Tuning Forks & Ancient YHSVH Chant. The music blends two sounds: the tones of tuning forks cut to 9 frequencies known as healing codes or Solfeggio Tones and the vocal mantra chant Yod Hey Shin ... Read More:

I agree with the previous reviewer that this is possibly the most beautiful album ever made - I remember buying this along with '4th World Possible Musics' (Hassell/Eno) the day they came out, and they are both still in my top 5 favourite albums.
Essentially this is a Harold Budd album (as '4th World' is essentially a Jon Hassell album)but Eno's treatments and production are central - it demonstrates his great taste and generosity as an artist if nothing else.
The entire album is incredible, but 'The Chill Air' is literally breathtaking- it stops me dead in my tracks every time I hear it.

Just a short review this time - I try my best never to have prior expectations about anything in life, especially music, thereby hoping that any disappointment is as justified as possible.

So, as a long time orbital fan, I was very disheartened when I heard the sound quality of the 2 audio CDs in this package. I cannot believe it was sanctioned for release, other than as a clever anti-piracy strategy....after all, who would want mp3s of poor quality audio sources ??? Just a thought....

The sound on the accompanying DVD is much better, almost perfect and has a nice balance of artist/crowd noise....reminiscent of the 3 Live EP/CD singles from 1996.

Also considering that some of (if not all - I cannot say ... Read More:

This is a lovely, understated album. It is in the tradition of the Fripp / Eno Ambient music that we have been either loving or loathing for the past thirty odd years. There is a consistent sound throughout the album with Robert Fripp on guitar and Theo Travis on alto flute and soprano sax.

These are two towering talents enjoying playing with a mutual respect. I first really became aware of Theo Travis on the Soft Machine Legacy album Steam where he filled the shoes of the sadly departed Elton Dean in grand style. His solo album, to which Robert Fripp contributed production and some guitar, is excellent.

what an album. Having only really just got into Richard D James' stuff a month or so back I'm quickly building up a collection of his albums and this is so far the most well-rounded album I've bought by him.

It is much easier on the ears than some of his other releases, and I like it like that. It kicks off with 'Acrid Avid Jam Shred' a 7 minute 40 second masterpiece which is absolutely gorgeous, which goes into 'The Waxen Pith' another beautiful track, acid-type bass makes way for stringy synths. Next up is 'Wax The Nip', a faster, more aggressive track

'Icct Hedral' follows, a swooping, foreboding, slightly menacing track. 'Ventolin' is the only track I really dislike, the horrible high-pitched noise which stays with it all ... Read More:

In my opinion this is their best album! Better than their, later, more rock-orientated material. Superbly crafted jazzy pop!

This has so much I love. Sweep of melody, great singing, a mix of non-west and west. This is a work by one of the greatest musicians of all time and it is her finest work.

I have listened to it a hundred times and there is so much more to learn of it.

The song Enchantment about magic and love is one of the most compelling stories I have ever heard, or indeed read. And I have read quite a few.

If you like the edge of music, if you like imagination and produced sound, than savour this for it is one of the best musics of all time.

Shiela, if you read this - don't let it go to your head, just work and improve please.

I brought this album purely of curiosity: I'd stopped buying single-artist albums by dance acts some time ago; generally because 90% of them were 'one hit wonders' ie the single was good but the rest of the album stank and you never heard from them again.

With the massive success of "Lola's Theme" and "Back to Basics" my curiosity was piqued but with both tracks being such massive tracks, they were played to death over the summers that each was released and so I was put off the album.

But it would appear that a late release of the album (is Lola's Theme really nearly 2 years old!!?) was an excellent strategy. Not only do both singles sound fresh again, but the rest of this album is pretty hot too.

We played it for the ... Read More:

I use this CD with a class of five and six year olds and it immediately relaxes and calms them They often ask for the music to be on as they say they can work better. They talk very quietly with their neigbour or not at all,the children are focussed on the task in hand and written work is completed more efficiently and accurately then without the music. TAs are amazed by the result. I would definately recommend this CD to teachers and parents.
