Following on from the debut album 'MCMXC aD', this follow up showcases Michael Cretu's exploration of musical styles from around the world. This album expands on it's predecessor and in some places is all the better for it. However I don't feel it quite reaches the same pinnacle as 'MCMXC aD'. Why? Well, take 'Return to Innocence' a brillant track marred by MC's (?) North American Native Indian style chants. With 'I Love You..I'll Kill You', a beautiful sultry number that starts and ends well but is spoiled with a straight out of the 70s cheesy guitar solo sandwiched in between. Some of Mobys' earlier work dates quite badly. This is not the case with Play it sounds just as fresh as it did all those years ago. This recording is like nothing you've heard before with chilling vocals and superb synths. When this came out it was like someone lit a fuse it seemed new people were "getting it" every week and it was THE album of the summer. You can listen to it now and it's just as moving as it always was. This will not date...

It seems that every alternate AIR album is a good one. Talkie Walkie was a lovely album but Pocket Symphony leaves me cold. There are perhaps around three tracks on this that are good - Once Upon a Time, Photograph and Night Sight are standouts, but the collaborations are pretty dire with Jarvis Cocker's Party getting my vote for weakest effort on this album. My advice would be to save your money on this one and go out and buy Charlotte Gainsbourg's 5:55 album, which was written and produced by AIR, and is more of a melodical AIR effort than this patchy piece of work.

Mr Scruff (known as Andy Carthy to his mum) is a multi talented DJ producer who is very difficult to pigeon hole (good the way I like it) - his productions on Keep It Unreal are dreamy and very funky, with crazy samples from children's TV of the 50s and 60s. The finest moment on here for me is Midnight Feast with it's delightful xylophone and jazzy feel, this is a good one for when you want to drift to sleep, and could probably be fun if you're a DJ cutting between tracks - or for scratchin'. Another favourite of mine is Get A Move On, with the sample of an old country record - it's bluesy yet jazz based melody is just fun and can get anyone dancing like a loon. Not another Orb album I hear you cry, but wait. This one is actually quite good. It is a compilation of the live BBC sessions they did between 89 and 01 and is probably more of a companion to "Evil Orb" than any studio album. The Orb were always an inventive live act, mixing up samples and bass lines, and some of the tracks here are so different as to be better than the album versions. That is just my opinion though. Hilights are the liner notes by Kirs Needs, the cover of the Stooges "No Fun" and a great "Towers of dub".

This is perfect for those long night drives. Three years later, its still a staggeringly good CD that you just dont get bored of. A Massive artistic achievement, in a class of its own.

One of the best from the Cafe. excellent selection of tunes. From the haunting Mumbai Theme tune to the superb Angels Landing. Pour me another Nestea and let me watch the sunset. Buy this you wont regret it.

This is a great album and probably my favorite from Brian Eno. It has that dreamy music that is from out of this world. Good for use in trance work and healing sessions in general, as relaxes client and therapist alike. As with much New Age music, this one in particular is timeless.
