I'm a pretty big fan of Moby but I have never really got on with this album. It's almost as if he picked his favourite part of Play (the end Gospel bit) and stayed there. The result is an album that doesn't go anywhere and has none of the dynamism of earlier work. No matter how many times I listen I find it depressing and hard to enjoy. A real shame.

I hadn't really heard any of Air's previous work before I watched 'The Virgin Suicides' but after hearing the haunting soundtrack and the eerie melodies that were so fitting to the film I just had to go out and buy this. It is captivating within itself and is an album that truly makes you think. As a soundtrack it works very well as it is filled with haunting tracks that just make you want to listen again and again.

It will take you back to poignant times in your life and really make you think. I find the tracks so haunting and deep that while listening to them you can really reflect on your emotions and feelings. Although it can sound rather sinister in places it is filled with beautiful tracks which upon listening to reveal their ... Read More:

firstly i should probably say what kinda music i like: most things!
and this is one of those rare albums which is amazing - every track is wonderful. this album, like moon safari, does not disappoint....and i dont really see a massive change in styles - its different to moon safari but its not so different that you would only like moon safari OR talkie walkie.
i only got it this morning and ive now listened to it through 2 times and it is amazing. it has the beauty of cinematic orchestra but with air's unique electronica feel - a calm and masterful piece of work.

Well for me Voyageur is brilliant and original Enigma at its best! As with all the previous albums you need to listen to it for a while to get the best from it.

It still has the same chill-out properties albeit in a slight departure from the previous Engima signature. It is one of my most listened-to albums.

Superb stuff hence the 5 stars.

Missed the release date of this, was initially confused by last Amorphous Androgynous release, but then realized what Gary Cobain et al was trying to do was pay his homage to psychedelic music, this however is a greater and more coherent achievement. The songs and concept keep this together. Certainly on the 'Isness' the songs with lyrics were a bit iffy. Here there is more styling and maturity. The instrumentation is more organized, there is inclusion of Linda Lewis who does a nice vocal on one track, there is a fair amount of slide guitar and some all out rock. It is a very varied and complete recording with 18 tracks, all heavily processed full of screaming layers of 'Tomorrow Never Knows' type sounds, swirling about in a miasma of psychedelic mayhem. Even though I usually stick to the coasts, I'll always have a place in my heart for Michigan -- I was born there, after all.

It also happens to be the first album in Sufjan Stevens' proposed fifty-state-album project, "Greetings From Michigan: The Great Lake State." Stevens' mellow indie-folk rules the album with a gentle hand, from sprightly folkpop to banjo balladry -- and it's as fun as it is complex and alluring.

It opens with a gentle piano, joined in by a chorus of horns. "It's the same outside/Driving to the riverside/I pretend to cry/Even if I cried alone," Stevens murmurs, embodying a worker who isn't working. Despite its simplicity, it's packed with self-trickery and windy dissatisfaction. "I forgot the part/Use my hands ... Read More:

Enigma is French so its not surprising ive not a clue what some of the saying mean but that doesnt matter. Enigma is a legend in mysteries and tribal weird dreamy music. A matter fact first track is scary but sounds excellent chatting sounds vocal of the heavens. Enigma combines even erotic romance into the flava of their music they are masters in creating such underground amazing experience for all types. ENIGMA WHAT A DISCOVERE GET ALL ENIGMA!

Having been a long time strict Rock/Indie fan I reluctantly borrowed this album from a friend who told me that I'd like it. He was wrong, I loved it. From beginning to end you feel like you are dreaming. There's so much character to this music because Boards of Canada really do pay attention to the very fine detail. Since I heard this album I have bought all the rest and upgraded my Hi-Fi so I can hear more of this infinite detail. It's such an organic warm sound for something created with such artificial methods.

Having searched long and hard for other electronica artists, many have imitated, but none have come close. The really do put so much into the music, and you get just as much out of listening to it, more and more each time.

an incredible package with lots of information and some brillaint early electronic music examples and studies.

If you have tons of money and have been into electronic music from the very start their are probably still going to be suprises here for you!

This package is an incredle purchase even simply as a refernce product. Their are people here that i hear and definatly am going to learn more about and study. People like Tod Dockstader of whom i probably would have not come across without this guide for instance

a huge recommendation to anyone with an ear towards the avant garde.

a huge recommendation to anyone with ears also!

I've bought a fair few albums from the master who is Richard D James, and nothing is quite like this one. Start to finish it's flowing, ethereal tranquility.

This seems to be a kind of 'marmite' album, you either love it for how it makes you feel - detached from everything, chilled out and happy or hate it because you think it's bland. There are some real stellar pieces here, track 3 on disc 1 is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard, tracks 7 and 8 on disc 2 are brilliant, to name a few of the better ones.

It is marred by a few very bland pieces though, which it's a shame to say lose this album a star. Had it been great all the way through with a little more deviation, it would easily be a 5 star album
