This is a great album for belly dancers, I wouldn't go as far as saying that all the tracks are fantastic but not far from it, I recognized lots of Egyptian rythms such as the Saidi for example. If you are a belly dancer then you must know how difficult it is to get a good compilation, very often they don't have anything to do with traditional belly dancing tracks, more often it is techno or rai, this one is the exception, I definitely recommend it.

Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan is clearly a unique individual, capable of producing a sound unlike any other I've every heard. I felt like I was looking for this album my whole life and only recently discovered it and him. Perhaps there is beauty in the fact that his music is hidden to most.Sab Vird Karo Allah Allah is truly uplifting. This music transcends you to another place, taking you through every emotional height in its wake. Explosive. GO Buy It.

i dont want to slag off what real world do because they are instrumental in bringing some of the most fantastic singers/musicians from all over the world to our attention. the problem is that the second western musicians take control of production they tend to dilute the soul in the music by adding preset synths, etc. why cant they keep it simple and with no computer beats please!to be fair this album is nowhere near the worst example of this problem but the production is just too polished for my taste. its frustrating because if only the great man had been produced by the likes of holger czukay, david sylvian or eno, etc the sound would have still been commercial enough but it would have been more organic and therefore would be timeless. never ... If you were Impressed with Gilles Peterson's eponymous CD compilation, and enjoyed Joe Harriott and Amancio D'Silva's track (Jaipur), then you will love Indo-Jazz Fusions. But the music contained on this CD is far more refined and sophisticated than Jaipur, and is highly polished in terms of performance and recording quality. The entire CD gradually absorbs you into it as you listen. When you first play it you may think that the concept of synthesising jazz with Indian raga would be a mistake. Be patient! It sucks you in. You will begin to wear the music like a favourite baggy shirt, and you'll never want to take it off. In fact, it gets under your skin in a most pleasing fashion. You will want to hear it again and again. The music is so multilayered that ... Read More:

A few years ago I was driving home from work listening to Radio 3, which at that time presented an eclectic mix of music. One piece suddenly stood out - a female voice singing beautifully, accompanied only by drones. I had to stop the car at the next lay-by to write down the name of the singer, Sheila Chandra, and the song, "Waiting". On the strength of that hearing I bought this album, and I was not disappointed.
Five of the tracks are singing to the background drones and the effect is has a wonderful timeless, ethereal quality. The sources are varied, including a medieval chant by Hildegard and the English traditional "A Sailor's Life". There are three unaccompanied songs and two tracks are what can best be described as vocal ... Read More:

Genuinely beautiful, graceful, lyrical, calming. This is my favourite album of all time for good reasons. From John McLaughlin's wonderful opening chord, through the rippling Water Girl and moments of ecstatic musical discovery in Sunjog and Zakir. It's difficult to comprehend how the humble human being can create something so perfect and extraordinary. Truly inspired.

It is a great shame that Ravi Shankar has been treated to a rash of reissues and cd compilations in recent years. At best it's a pity because his longer concert performances are under-represented in the cd catalogue.

The performances on this compilation CD are all from the vinyl age when raga was squeezed down to fit the format, and the result is a loss of the true essence of Indian raga performance. 30 years on, to continue to treat the western market to short performances like this is somewhere between misleading, patronising and exploitatative.

The worst crime is that on this cd the live Pancham Se Gara track is actually cut and faded before the climax.

Nevertheless there are a couple of good performances on the CD and its ... Read More:
