I thought the light had gone out when Waylon died, then I heard a JM track (Cheney's Toy) on Bob Harris Country on BBC Radio 2. The light was back on, and what a light !!!!. I did what a lot of other reviewers have done, I bought this album, then tracked down and bought all of them. I was hooked. This is the best music I have heard in many a year, I cant get enough. My wife (who does not have any interest in music) does not complain when I play JM's CD's - silent praise !!!!. I look forward to future releases and, who knows, I may even go to the next gig when he comes over here.

Calexico's sound inhabits the frontier badlands of the American Southwest, a cinematic multi-instumental brew that takes in jazz, alt-country, Mariachi, folk and electronics. It's a widescreen affair, a mixture of traditional rootsy Americana ('Quattro') and brooding instrumental mood pieces ('Pepita', 'Across The Wire') that evoke rust and dust choked border towns. Dubbed 'desert-rock' by some, don't be turned off by the Tex-Mex conceit, this is a wonderful album overflowing with ideas; a real grower that rewards repeated listens. If this is the definitive collection, where is 'That's Old Fashioned'? It was a hit and it was superb. A reasonable effort has been spoiled for a ha'porth of tar. As with the majorty of compilations, this begs the question as to whether the ommissions are a deliberate attempt to get you to buy other albums, or merely the result of incompetence. The world still needs a proper Everly compilation. There are enough hidden gems in the vaults and on old LP's to compete with the entire canon of Dylan bootlegs. Priorities: 'Stain Glass Morning', 'Whatever Happened to Judy?, and 'Eden to Cainin'. And then there's the magnificent 'Always Drive a Cadillac' from the second of their Mercury studio albums. I got sent this CD by mistake - and I'm very pleased about it. Eilen Jewell's voice is reminiscent of a smokey night club. Her songs cover a variety of styles and they are all good. She's moved on from "Boundary County", although that is not a criticism of that album - it's well worth listening to. Her voice is full of - I'm not sure what. It's relaxed, tuneful, but grabs your attention. I'm so glad somebody made a mistake!

The third album by the Cherryholmes demonstrates how with the passing of time musicianship can evolve to great heights. Tight and variable harmonies deliver everytime. Most of the material used is written by the Cherryholmes with Cia featuring as the main driver. The celtic routes can be discovered on a couple of tracks. It's a fine blend of tracks which demonstrates the musical tightness that only a family band can bring. having seen the Cherryholmes live this year reinforces what an extra ordinary collective talent they are. For bluegrass fans this is a rare treat and I would recommend for hours of listening!

I first bought this album when it first came out back in 1989 just a month or so after the tragic death of roy orbison,who my opinon was quite simply the greatest singer,songwriter of all time.This is a must have album for enyone who wishes to hear eny of roys music. Great song choices here though perhaps only 'Telling Me Lies' sounds out of place. What really sells this album is the sheer joy you feel at the harmonies. I'm not a big fan of the singers so have no agenda here, but they sound fantastic together. Stand out tracks include 'I've Had Enough', 'Those Memories' and and the aching 'My Dear Companion'

Another great album from Albert lee and Hogan's Heroes. I saw them live yesterday (03/09/08) performing most of these numbers and they were fantastic as usual. New boy Elio on keyboards (see earlier review) is possibly a little over the top, but it made a change not to have to hear Pete Wingfield play Floyd Cramer's 'On the Rebound' and 'Last Date' yet again! Something for everyone on this album - your collection isn't complete without it!

An excellent 'Best Of' collection: probably the second best collection of Alan Jackson there is - it's only beaten by Volume 2!! Both are highly recommended!!! Garth Brooks!! Who's he?!!

With two good albums under his belt, "Guitar Town" from 1986 and "Exit O" from 1987, "Copperhead Road" was Steve Earle's 3rd record for the MCA stable and he had clearly hit his song-writing stride. I remember when I bought it at the time that it sounded just HUGE - and although he was considered a `country' artist, "Copperhead Road" was a really a blasting rock 'n' roll beast of a thing with some country tinges thrown in for good measure. Even the front cover and picture of him on the rear smacked of `attitude' - a snot-nosed punk on a Harley eyeing up your underage daughter with less than moral intent.
