I'm a big Ryan Adams fan and feel the man can't do much wrong throughout the various parts of his career. But I had a bootleg of this album for some time and slightly dismissed it as early, almost unfinished work that would be later surpassed in Strangers Almanac, Heartbreaker etc.

After buying this reissue version with improved sound and extra tracks I'm amazed by just how wrong I was. Songs like 'Here's to the Rest of the World' are Whiskeytown at their very best and they hardly put a foot wrong on 21 tracks.

Even if you're put off by some of Ryan's recent music ('Rock n' Roll'?) or don't like a bit of country twang on yer CDs I'm sure you'd appreciate this if you're at all interested in classic songwriting. Any fans ... Read More:

A jolly collaboration this, with MK evidently enjoying a chance to explore his Notting Hillbillies side. With the exception of the very last track written by MK, these are all covers of Don Gibson era type tunes and the whole set hangs together most satisfyingly. The recording's a peach too.

Calexico's sound inhabits the frontier badlands of the American Southwest, a cinematic multi-instumental brew that takes in jazz, alt-country, Mariachi, folk and electronics. It's a widescreen affair, a mixture of traditional rootsy Americana ('Quattro') and brooding instrumental mood pieces ('Pepita', 'Across The Wire') that evoke rust and dust choked border towns. Dubbed 'desert-rock' by some, don't be turned off by the Tex-Mex conceit, this is a wonderful album overflowing with ideas; a real grower that rewards repeated listens.

The filmic quality to the music is enhanced by anecdotal and scene-setting lyrics, not to mention Enio Morricone-schooled atmospherics. But they can do breezy west coast pop as well ('Not Even Stevie Nicks') and ... Read More:

The third album by the Cherryholmes demonstrates how with the passing of time musicianship can evolve to great heights. Tight and variable harmonies deliver everytime. Most of the material used is written by the Cherryholmes with Cia featuring as the main driver. The celtic routes can be discovered on a couple of tracks. It's a fine blend of tracks which demonstrates the musical tightness that only a family band can bring. having seen the Cherryholmes live this year reinforces what an extra ordinary collective talent they are. For bluegrass fans this is a rare treat and I would recommend for hours of listening!

So many other reviews have so succinctly said what I fear I may fail to say. I was working her Birmingham 2005 concert when Restless stopped me in my tracks. As a Steward it is a rare, fine musical band that can cajole me into buying two of their CDs instantly, on the face of one beautiful song.....but am I glad!

AKUS's music could be for those gentle folk who do not want to admit to liking some country music. It could be for those who like exquisite harmonies and pure sound. Or it could simply be for those who love. If you've never been dumped.....if you've never felt crushed....if you've never looked into someone's eyes and seen their soul stare back, then for god's sake buy this album. You simply haven't lived.

167.The Definitive Everly Brothers (2CD) by: Everly Brothers

Music : The Definitive Everly Brothers (2CD)
If this is the definitive collection, where is 'That's Old Fashioned'? It was a hit and it was superb.

A reasonable effort has been spoiled for a ha'porth of tar. As with the majorty of compilations, this begs the question as to whether the ommissions are a deliberate attempt to get you to buy other albums, or merely the result of incompetence.

The world still needs a proper Everly compilation. There are enough hidden gems in the vaults and on old LP's to compete with the entire canon of Dylan bootlegs. Priorities: 'Stain Glass Morning', 'Whatever Happened to Judy?, and 'Eden to Cainin'. And then there's the magnificent 'Always Drive a Cadillac' from the second of their Mercury studio albums. Mercury did a complilation from those albums; the English ... Read More:

I got sent this CD by mistake - and I'm very pleased about it. Eilen Jewell's voice is reminiscent of a smokey night club. Her songs cover a variety of styles and they are all good. She's moved on from "Boundary County", although that is not a criticism of that album - it's well worth listening to.
Her voice is full of - I'm not sure what. It's relaxed, tuneful, but grabs your attention. I'm so glad somebody made a mistake!

Excellent CD. The old traditional hymns really hit home. Definitely worth listening to such inspiring music. It is unfortunate that the old time hymns have been forgotten, and so this recording by Johnny Cash reminds one that there was once good Christian oriented music. By contrast, the new contemporary Christian music panders to modern "pop culture" and sounds is if it was sung by some washed up Vegas lounge lizard.

I first bought this album when it first came out back in 1989 just a month or so after the tragic death of roy orbison, who my opinon was quite simply the greatest singer, songwriter of all time. This is a must have album for enyone who wishes to hear eny of roys music.
I was only 19yrs old when i heard the news of roy death on the radio and to my shame it was the first time i had heard of roy orbison, but i was impressed with the snipets of his big hits from the sixtys that was played druing the news flash of his death,so much so that i bought the greatest hit compilation that came out at the time and after playing that i knew that i was listerning to something truely wonderfull
From that day onwards i have been on a quest to collect every song and album roy made in his ... Read More:
