If you want to buy a Glen Campbell "Greatest Hits" look no further than this superb collection, which provides a few surprise bonuses as well once you listen (i.e. Less of Me - superb early acoustic recording). All the classics are included - "Galveston", "Wichita Lineman", "By The Time I Get To Phoenix" etc plus duet with Bobbie Gentry. The only criticism i would make is the omission of "Both Sides Now" & "Don't Pull Your Love Out" (maybe they weren't Capitol recordings), but then there is an extensive back catalogue to choose from. An essential cd for anyone's collection.

Good introduction to Mr John Denver, I bought for my mother who is delighted with it.

Introducing us to their rhythmic and melodious country/rock style, and their infectiously candid and assertive manner that would later get them rather unfairly into political hot water, the feisty Dallas trio's first mainstream album is a fantastic example of country music that has been made accessible to a wider audience.

The Chicks are entertaining, they sound as if they really had a lot of fun making this album, and their performances are full of spirit and energy - they're a joy to listen to. The album also has heart and soul, there's a lot of humanity in the lyrics which might not be immediately obvious to the casual listener.

However, I did feel that they were holding something back on these recordings, there was even ... Read More:

There is some very nice stuff on here but there is also a track I believe after some considerable research to be the worst performance Mr C ever put down on tape. Its actually worth getting just for the car crash awfulness.
Jackson and Guitar Pickin Man being the best of the bunch. June's raggedy edged deep country voice is a pure joy compared to the plastic divas nashville serves up these days. Love to hear that growl mingling with the sweetness. Johnny is if anything a bit hesitant in his vocalising, compared to other work. If only he had been hesitant however in the cover of Ray Charles' What I Say. The band almost exactly replicates the original version give or take a bit of dodgy keyboard timing, but Cash is singing high! And let me tell ... Read More:

I first heard of GW when he played on Willie (Bill Wyman) and the Poor Boys album way back.I then found an LP in a second hand shop, "Geraint Watkins and the Dominators". Sadly not available on CD. This man has played alongside countless premier division musicians and most recently has been on tour with Bill Wyman's Rythym Kings.
Known for his cajun and zydeco country feel [and a bit of 12 bar] music this album does not disappoint.
The opening track, "Two Rocks" is played over "chapel organ" chords, lasts just over a minute and is a wonderful prelude to "Turn That Chicken Down" with a real New Orleans feel and dare I say it Art of Noise interlude? Every track is easy to listen to. That does not make it easy listening a la James Last but easy on the ear. You ... Read More:

Before you jump in and buy, have a look at 'The Essential Johnny Cash' as the track listing on this 2002 'Man In Black: TVBO' collection is more similar to that CD than it is to the CD of the title 'Man In Black: TVBO' issued in 2001 (probably the U.S. version).

This 2002 'Man In Black: TVBO' one has four more tracks than 'Essential', and differs towards the end between the two 'Man In Black: TVBO' collections. This latter part is not such a problem in my view as the earlier stuff is more essential listening.

Unfortunately, this UK version of 'Man In Black: TVBO' from 2002 has the bleeped version of A Boy Named Sue, as detailed in 'The Essential Johnny Cash' reviews.

Confusing, but worth mentioning just in case this would influence ... Read More:

This is an excellent introduction to the music of Steve Earle. Steve Earle is an amazing musician who almost defies classification – he has his roots in country music but his work shows strong rock influences, particularly influenced by the blue collar rock of Bruce Springsteen (in fact this album includes a couple of Springsteen covers).

The album takes tracks from Earle’s first four albums (Guitar Town, Exit 0, Copperhead Road & The Hard Way) together with five live tracks from his live album Shut up and die like an Aviator. Personally I prefer later Earle (Jerusalem and El Corazon are probably my two favourite albums) but this is fantastic introduction to early Steve Earle. In some ways it is more country than some of his later work (although ... Read More:

I have been a huge Lee Ann Womack fan since 2001 and she has done some great albums - but this is right up there with the best. For me, Last Call, Solitary Thinkin', Everything but Quits (with George Strait) and Story Of My Life are the pick of the bunch. This album represents everything that is good about Lee Ann Womack, a fine mix of songs reflecting hope and despair, the positive and the negative aspects of love! It has been a long wait for this, her latest album, but the album will not disappoint.

I've had this album since it was first released. I would say that it has got to be one of the dozen or so essential albums in any popular music lovers collection, and in this expanded version is a must buy.
My fellow reviewers have given you the details, I just advise you to do yourselves a big favour & add this to your collection, I promise you won't be disappointed.
