I'd been hearing great things about the 12th Man (a.k.a. Billy Birmingham) on the grapevine for some time, so decided to give this one a try; I wasn't disappointed.
Despite numerous expletives and innuendos (be warned this is really adult humour) this is one of the best comedy recordings I have heard for a long time. The spoof Asian cricketer names, constant niggle between the commentators, ridiculous scorelines and constant emphasis on Richie Benaud's pronunciation of the "s" and "t" (i.e. 222 for 2) are HILARIOUS, and the whole script is dotted with some razor-sharp one-liners.
If you're familiar with Australia's Channel Nine cricket commentary you may get more out of this, but in places (even to the uninitiated) this is a rip ... Read More:

Buy this.

Having heard all of these shows previously on the radio & having just bought the cd version to play in the car. I can only say that if you really want to celebrate this is the way to do it.

Although the plots are somewhat dated the pathos that runs through the shows remains relevant today. Truely masterful performances by Hancock, James, Williams ably supported by Jacques & Kerr.

Sit back, enjoy and maybe cry a little - with laughter of course.

Frankly, anyone who buys a CD of music from the City of Prague Philharmonic expecting it to comprise of originals is either short-sighted or panning the orchestra just for the sake of it. It's like criticising your local orchestra for not being the London Phil or the Skywalker Symphony - you can enjoy the music regardless.

Are these tracks original? No. Are they very good representations? Absolutely. I've had countless hours of enjoyment from this CD and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to those listeners who want a good mix of TV themes from all genres or are looking for one of the more obscure TV themes.

Welsh actor Richard Burton had one of the greatest voices ever captured on record. Dylan Thomas was one of the finest poets ever to emerge from Wales. Put them together and you have one of the most joyously beautiful recordings you can hope for. Burton was always a wonderful reciter of poetry, and his readings of 15 of Dylan's poems on this CD are amongst his very best work. He reads them with passion, wit, love and reverence. His reading of 'Fern Hill' is my personal favourite, but all of them are wonderful.

The CD also includes two of Thomas's short stories, read by Hugh Griffiths and Emlyn Williams. I cannot recommend this recording highly enough.

I have always considered Miklos Rozsa's score to Ben-Hur to be the greatest film score ever composed. The sheer depth of that music, the quantity of themes Dr. Rozsa composed for that one movie (around 10 or 12 different themes) and the magnificent orchestrations he wrote made that score unique. Considering the quality of film scores that are composed today - good, usually adequate, but nothing truly 'great' - I never thought I would come across anything to match this wonder written 50 years ago.

I'm so glad to say I was wrong.

This score will surely go down as one of the great film scores of all time. I wont go on and on about it, as other reviewers have written fabulous reviews here that sum up my feelings. I only want ... Read More:

Well, whilst I don't think this is the best of the three recordings made of Derek & Clive, it still deserves five stars. It also contains the best sketch, The Critics!!

As everyone else has said, this isn't for the faint hearted. It's vile at time, cringeworthy, totally un-pc and such a refreshing change from todays stadium comedians.

Not to be listened to within earshot of anyone with heart condition as they either have a heart attack from the content or die laughing. Not for kids, conservatives, prudes or you nan.

Nonetheless, Derek & Clive are pure punk comedy gold. God rest their soles and our soles!!

When our eyes are otherwise occupied, or even closed, and we have a liking for a good thriller or murder mystery, there is nothing better than listening to one or other of the Paul Temple cases reissued from the BBC archives. At least four components account for this. They were written by Francis Durbridge, they were produced by Martyn C Webster, the theme music was "Coronation Scot" by Vivian Ellis, and the part of Steve, Paul Temple's wife, was played for more than twenty years by Marjorie Westbury. Durbridge kept to a reliable formula: a mystery somehow comes to the notice of journalist/writer Paul Temple, and solving it will bring numerous visitors to his Mayfair flat, including Scotland Yard personnel, and involve Paul and his wife Steve in numerous ... This is a truly splendid record. In addition to the well known show stoppers there are some great songs here.

It's worth getting this particular recording for Gloria Grahame's rendition of "I Cain't Say No". Brooklyn meets the Prairies!

It was like this : I think I'll just have a lie down a listen to my new poetry CD. Nice poems, mellow voices and ...diddle - a dee, diddle a dee,
DIDDLE - A -DEE, DEE, DEE!!! What the heck is that electonic racket? The whole experience was ruined by the toy-like, tinny segue music between tracks. I'm going to have to " edit " these out. 'Tis a pity as the poetry is varied, entertaining and well read. I suppose if you planning to stay awake, it'll be O.K. but I'm going to knock off some stars for the unwelcome noise.

No, no, no. This is not the best film music ever composed. It is all the same - even the terrifying movement that was cut barely makes anything tingle. Yes, it has to experienced with the film, but this is where this soundtrack falls down.

This soundtrack does not stand on its own: if it is supposed to, it falls into that awful Classic FM genre of baroque-style easy listening, which surely must become a graveyard eventually.
