The whole series is captured here on three CD's, two episodes per CD each split into around 8 seperate tracks. Its superb stuff and laugh out loud funny. I was worried before buying about whether this would be a good enough substitute for the brilliant TV series but you needn't worry. It works really well. Since you are robbed of your eyes (so to speak) then you listen that much harder to the dialogue and I felt that I picked up more of the gems served up by the writers. All the original cast are here. I wasn't bothered that the audience laughter is captured on the CD's - I was usually laughing over the top of them anyway. We love listening to Terry Deary's histories in the car. I like to tell myself that they are educational, and they are in their way, though they don't feel like it. More importantly, they get my child - and me - interested in history. There are lots of CDs in the Horrible Histories series, and this is one of the best we've heard yet - we like the Vicious Vikings too. This is aimed at kids (not too young though), but there are some funny items designed to keep us adults amused, like the Jonathan Ross sound-alike in the 'worst emperor of the lot' awards and some wonderfully bad puns. Wow, when I first saw this cd I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as the first set which were brilliant, and had most of the better known heroes and their stories on them. Stories like Herakles and Jason, Theseus and Perseus, but I think this set of tales is even better! The sound quality is excellent and Ben Soames voice is really lively, bringing these tales to life. I listened to them on a long drive up to Scotland and I was really transported by the storytelling. The music is well chosen too and my kids 12 and 14 really liked them too. I had read versions of some of these stories before, but there are some great action sequences, like when Belerofon kills the Kimera and some beautiful descriptions, of Pegasus, the winged stallion and proper ... This Album sums up my teenage years everyone I knew had the "train spotting" poster on the bedroom wall! listening to this soundtrack makes memories of oasis very blur, Ibiza being the only place you could possibly go on hols and girl power all flood back . With classic tunes such as perfect day, born slippy and my personal five miles end its a must have for any one who hold this era close to there heart.

Most soundtracks only work in the context of the film or program that spawned them, and even then a lot are only half-baked rehashes of someone else's more original score. Not this one, though. Thomas Newman has composed a sountrack of incredible invention and subtlety, which can be enjoyed in it's own right. Hell, even a walk through Liverpool city centre became a bit mystical, accompanied by this on the ipod and decent sound cancelling earbuds! A fabulous piece of music.

This has to be the most beautiful piece of music i've ever heard, and every time i listen it never fails to reduce me to tears! As the previous reviewer states, parts of it are taken from the great Rachmaninov's Paganini Rhapsody, and it truly touches your soul. There's nothing better than putting it in the old CD player, sitting on the sofa on a cold sunday afternoon with a blanket, a nice glass (or two) of wine, some chocolate and a box of tissues....turn the volume up and just lose yourself in its haunting melody. Utterly priceless. Enjoy :)

When i bought this HHGTG version online, i must've been under the misconception that this was the (fanfare) Ultimate Version that i'd been slavering for. It sure has a lot of neat stuff in it, granted: interviews, etc. But now i realize what i was really after was the vinyl LP version, which, for my money, was the best because of the SOUND! I have such a sweet memory from ages ago when, open-mouthed, i first heard that vinyl recording; i was absolutely floored by the thickness of it. It was so musical! The cast also seemed to really be comfortable in their parts. This version, by comparison, i'm sorry to say, seems rather flat, albeit very complete. I wish, i wish, i wish that someone would make a whiz-bang edition of the LP's. Not bloody likely, i think.
