Yet another reissue of one of the BBC radio collection of Paul Temple mysteries provides further evidence for the contention that murder mysteries work well on radio. By 1968, the year this one was first broadcast, market forces tended to draw writers away from radio to television as a medium for such entertainments. I wonder if TV murder mysteries from the late 60s would stand up as well to reissue as these highly expert radio productions. Writer Francis Durbridge works the formula well here. Murders occur at regular intervals, the word "Alex" linking itself to them. Their investigation leads to many encounters and throws up many changes of location. I have this on cassette tape, but have now purchased the CD version for convenience. The BBC production stimulates the imagination much more than the telly can ever do. Just close your mind and engross yourself in a believable world of Hobbits, Dragons, magic rings and treasure. Gollum is an excellent character who adds a little humour to the Hobbitses Grand Adventure.

Having seen the original show with Jonathan Pryce and Lea Salonga, I also saw it a year later when the understudy was playing Kim and was not disappointed. All those years ago I brought my 5 year old up with the soundtrack and always promised her that if it came back to the stage I would take her. Now she is 15 and I was able to keep my promise at the Milton Keynes venue of the current tour and she was absolutely blown away. Jonathan Pryce was fab as the engineer in the original show, and I'm glad I saw him in that part, but the current cast, although doing a variation of the original is certainly not a disappointment. I purchased this album very recently having loved the songs I had heard Neil sing in concert, but wondering whether I would like the rest of the instrumentals. As usual I needn't have worried once again it was musical magic and loved instantly. It would give myself any many more fans I expect a great thrill if Neil would turn his hands to more film scores. Please carry on with the magic you create when you put your pen to paper, pick up your guitar. and sing from the heart. Love your music

This is my favourite movie soundtrack of all time. Harry Gregson-Williams' score is flawless, magical and layered. He uses an array or instruments and choirs, and each add to the over-all feel of Narnia. The Narnian theme runs through this soundtrack, culminating in my favourite track - 'The Battle'. HGW did an amazing job of capturing all the wonder and magic of Narnia, and just as Lucy is experiencing it all for the first time, we feel like we are, too. Imogen Heap and Alanis Morissette's tracks are worth the CD price alone, and the lyrics are perfect for this film. I've been listening to this soundtrack non-stop for almost two years now, and I personally think that it is just as good as the actual film.

I don't think I can say much more than what has already been so I'll just say that this soundtrack is very much worthy of such a special movie. If you love movie soundtracks like myself you will definately want this one in your collection, I have a lot of soundtracks and this has to be one of my favourites.
