I don't usually buy soundtracks but I liked a lot of the music on this film. Folky, uncomplicated music that is pleasant to listen to including old as well as new. I think this is a great compilation for those long lazy summer sunset evenings. It will also introduce you to a variety of artists/bands you may not have known before (like it did me).

Is this, I wonder, the greatest filmscore ever made? Well, if it isn't, it must come close. It is impossible to imagine Wim Wenders' film without the sparse, haunting, melancholy wail of Ry Cooder's guitar, the soundtrack being an integral part of the action (if the film can really be considered to have much in the way of action). It is as difficult to imagine "Paris, Texas" without Cooder's music as it is to imagine the shower scene in "Psycho" without Bernard Herrman's staccato strings but, whereas Herrman's score works only with the film, the music on "Paris, Texas" makes for a raw and wonderful listening experience on its own. Undoubtedly the most popular characters since White and MacKay, Hamish and Dougal display their unique talents for the single entendre and surral observation in four of the funniest 15 minutes you'll hear this side of a Presbyterian service on Skye. Barry Cryer and Graeme Garden give it their all, which is quite a lot considering their ages, and produce timeless smut - sorry, comedy. And ably supported by Alison Steadman and Jeremy Hardy, this is a present which folk willnae forget. Or forgive. 10/10

a brilliant soundtrack slightly overshadowed by Jimmy Nails' over-inflated ego. His nasally whining vocal style marrs an otherwise five star album. Thankfully Bill Nighy has talent and the Strange Fruit tracks on the album certainly make up for any failings in the 'Nail' camp. Buy the album, skip tracks 1, 3 and 9 and you're in for a treat.

I had the privilege of seeing them perform together in one of their hilarious shows, and, sadly, 'Who Plays Wins' was their first recording and 'A Quiet Night Out' (also on offer here) seems to have been their only other - 'after which, we stop'. As a child I used to listen to Flanders and Swann, and I think Stilgoe and Skellern are more up-to-date, pacier experts in the same genre of musical wit and humour. Would that they had carried on performing and recording together. Social comment from the closure of the Welsh mines to the antics of the C of E are all grist to the mill; some pathos, a lot of humour, and a remarkable talent displayed by Richard Stilgoe of creating lyrics from shouted ... Miles Davis, John Lee Hooker and Taj Mahal together on the same record: Wow… well not quite. The problem is that this eclectic combination was put together specifically to play a Jack Nitzchse composed movie score. As soundtrack’s go it’s good – lot’s of drifting, atmospheric playing that’s well suited to building cinematic moods – but, out of context, a great deal of it sounds like… well like a soundtrack without the movie. On track after track John Lee Hooker puts in a tour-de-force of deep groaning that beats virtually any other bluesman out of sight, Miles Davis inserts trumpet stabs to die for and Taj Mahal (supported by Tim Drummond, Earl Palmer & Roy Rogers) provides superbly earthy ... this is simply the best rock n roll soundtrack of all time i have only just bought for my collection,after watching the film loads of times,it follows the film track by track,stand out tracks very hard to pick as all very cool even the less well know hits but love potion no 9,runaway,party doll are classic. buy this cd and lose yourself in sheer bliss it magic.

I have not seen the film, but the beauty of this music makes me always relax and smile. Such a pity that the disc is so short!

Great CD, all in all, theres a couple odd songs, but you get used to them, but all in all, this cd is really good and does represent the movie :) especially with a few Skits to go with it :)

The music's fine - the Ludovico Einaudi instrumental tracks particularly - but why, oh why, are there five dialogue tracks on this CD? You don't want to listen to them time after time!!! Also the listing as on this site when I bought the CD is wrong - there are only 24 tracks not 26 as shown - these two are missing: 17. Elgar: Pomp And Circumstance March No.1 In D Major + 19. Maggie Gave A Thistle - and the order of the others differs somewhat...
