There's no getting away from the fact this is pricey but it's worth it! It's VERY atmospheric with really strong performances from an all British cast. It's NOT an audio book ! There is a central narrator, but every character has it's own individual performance/actor, there are some fantastic (& never cheesy!) Sound FX and subtle uses of suitably grand, orchestral pieces. I certainly can't imagine much better on the Radio back in 1981 - the WHOLE tale fom start to finish! The beauty of this is that you can indulge your imagination. Saturday Night Fever was a phenomenon at the time of its release. The film and its soundtrack remain classic works. As well as the big hits from the movie there are a number of lesser known tracks here which featured in the film. If you're heading out after a hard working week put this album on, turn it up, open a drink and let the good times roll.

A brave move to set a period film against the backdrop of a very modern soundtrack, but in this case, it works, and very well too. Fans of the movie will love this soundtrack, but it's also just a great CD, one that should be a staple of any collection. The clever reworkings of so many old hits, El Tango de Roxanne in particular, give a new flavour to the tracks and help to up the kitsch value of the movie. Although it was a huge worldwide hit, it was certainly quirkier than most of your five-star movies, and the soundtrack is exactly the same. I'll be honest - this won't be an unbiased review. I'm guessing that most people who will purchase/consider purchasing this will be fans of Scrubs, so I am reviewing it from this perspective. I am a Scrubs fanatic, and, like the rest of my kind, I know how impressive the soundtrack has been over the years. This CD is a good collection of those songs. Obviously, the more well-known artists wouldn't have wanted their songs on this, as they are high-profile in their own right (eg/ Boston, Toto). However, Scrubs has always been a source of exciting new music for me (I don't know if the music is popular in the USA, but its certainly always been new to me). After getting the KiDULTHOOD soundtrack, I wasnt expecting this one to be much better as in the first one some of the songs are just bits people say in the movie. But this one is brilliant. All the tracks are perfectly fitted with the movie. And are of a brilliant standard featuring tracks from Sway, Wiley and Bashy. Especially the Kidulthood to Adulthood track. That is amazing.

LOVE it. Only Burton does this piece justice. I prefer this audio version to watching it on the screen and to reading the book. It is a 'play for voices,' after all.

Having watched a production of Annie with my pet mouse, I was pursuaded to buy the CD for him. He loves it! He's constantly listening to the album and has made himself a wig out of the wax that covers edam cheese. He's even started eating less cheese so that he can feel more like an orphan. My only worry is that he now has a love of dogs and being a mouse, this is potentially hazardous. This is why I have only awarded four stars, but if you asked him, he'd give it five . . . and a half if that was possible.

I am a fan of talking books, and I would describe many of the ones that I have heard as good, entertaining, thought provoking even. But this collection of stories stands so far above everything else that I have listened to that I can't see them ever being eclipsed. They are that very rare thing in literature - something that is brilliant, complex, moving - but absolutely not worthy, or 'difficult'. How many of us have struggled through a Booker prize winner because we 'ought to', when really it was too much like hard work? These stories are just so entertaining. You very quickly forget that they are monologues because the scenes and other characters are so real that you can see and hear them as if you were watching a full-cast production. Close your eyes and play this CD and you are back in the theatre listening to this wonderful musical. Hours later you still have the music and the words buzzing around your head as it is so memorable. Stephanie Lawerence is very good playing Mrs Johnstone, and was an exceptional singer but the Liverpool accent was perhaps best produced by Linda Nolan although she did not have the quality of Stephanie's voice. I have see the musical four times with the same Narrator,and he is is superior to Warwick Evans. Also, Eddie is today played with gusto and at all four performances he has been fantastic and what an accent. Thank you Amazon for having this in stock. Please don't stop making this available. I just dug out the album when packing up my parents things. I used to listen to this album so much as a young adult and when I saw the album and realized I had no record player to play it I was hurt. I took a chance and looked for it online and it came up. I cried. My high school sang Starmaker as one of our graduation songs 20 years ago. I used to be a dancer so Fame was a show I was glued to and I used to make dances from the songs on this album. Thanks a zillion for allowing me to hold on to these great memories.
