This album has has never been far away from my CD player since it was released around 23 years ago. The music surprised a lot of people at the time because it wasn't completely representative of the Abba style. In the theatre the music is completely overwhelming. I managed to see the production 3 times, twice with the original cast and that is why I would recommend this recording above all others. Some of the players are different but the American, Russian & Florence were as heard on the CD's. The Swedish touring version mentioned further down is excellent, in that it includes the ending as we knew it & other bits and pieces. Susannah McCorkle's notes to this compilation are so good-humored, as is her general approach to interpreting the songs, that it's a shock to find out it was her last project before committing suicide. The choice of "For all we know" as the last track is a bit shiver-inducing. Having said that, this is a hugely enjoyable selection covering her entire career. Highlights are "Waters of March" delivered like a magic charm, "I thought about you" a real late-night feel with a perfect tenor solo from the great Frank Wess and a nicely arranged tribute to Chet Baker "Look for the silver lining." In fact, all the tracks are highlights, not a "best of" but a "most requested" like the ultimate Susannah McCorkle gig which, sadly, none of us will ever see.

A good mix of songs and styles. This is more backing track than Karaoke so it wouldn't be suitable for a complete beginner as it sometimes takes some working out to find out where to sing. The lyrics leaflet is in very tiny print and in blue so not easy to read. The sound is good, though, and matches the original tracks quite well. There is no guide tune given - just the backing vocals (which I like but it doesn't suit everyone). I have only used one track thoroughly so far (Walking in the air) and have found that, though the printed words match the original in terms of where to sing and where to take a break, the backing track doesn't!! This album is simply Sinatra at his very best. If, like me, you starting listening to Sinatra because you liked his classics, like New York New York and My Way, then you are in for a real treat. As good as the above are, this album showcases Sinatra's special talent. Each track is given the treatment, he carries the beat and your feet just cannot stop tapping. The album is without doubt one of his very best. No Sinatra collection would be complete without it.

Some rave about Ella Fitzgerald, her tonal purity and mirth, but say she could lack emotional depth (not sure I agree). Some rave about Billie Holliday, but have to cede that she had a narrow range, although she was a groundbreaking stylist. Sarah Vaughan was the third great female voice of jazz, and believe you me, she lacked nothing! This album is a wonderful budget introduction to one of the most remarkable voices of all time. Her range and her sheer musical intelligence are unsurpassable.

When you are looking for something you can sit and listen to with lights dimmed and drink at hand, then this is surely it. Sinatra's voice is at its expressive best, so much so, if you close your eyes you could be on the next bar stool. A superb colection of saloon songs that ranks among Sinatra's best.

This CD gave my partner and I what we now affectionately call 'our song' - its 'Never, never, never' and means a great deal to us both. The rest of the CD is a sublime listening experience, sending shivers down your spine and making you laugh and cry. A wonderful collection of iconically sung masterpieces. Thank you Shirl.

This is Tom Jones as I first knew him in the 60s - not as smooth as he later became but still with the big, beautiful voice, at home with the ballads or rockers or even funny romantic - I'd fogotten The Young New Mexican Puppeteer which I loved tho I could never sing without getting tongue tied. If you like great songs and great singing, you can't get better.
