This is an amazing album full of hits which were classis, even just after release all those years ago. The fact that they still sound great is testament to the man. I tried to find one song which i didnt like or didn't hum along to, but it was impossible. Buy it!

Not too impressed with the quality of the recording... I was really hoping for something MUCH better than that. If someone could recommended a brilliant audio recording of Carmen that would be just fantastic. This one lets me down I think. The singing is "top-drawer" though.

Thanks to BGO we are able to experience again the wonderful releases of Shirley Bassey that we originally loved on LP. Hearing her powerful voice calling across the years makes me for one feel young again. It is a shame that most people think of her as the Goldfinger Girl without realising that her range is so much more and she is the most exciting live performer of our generation. These albums are a true testament to her command of emotion and diction which make a Bassey interpreation of a song a truly professional and artistic triumph. It is also wonderful to see the original photography that made Shirley a fashion icon.

This is another amazing collection of the velevety tones of the master. But the best surprize is the release of five new tracks never released to CD before. It's been a long time coming and is aptly fitting for the 20th Anniversary. It's a great easy listening collection of his well known hits and will bring back some wonderful memories to the listener. It's also a treat that some of the oldies have been remastered. Well done EMI. Fantastic

Read all the other reviews for soloist analysis etc. What I wish to add is do not be put off by the age of this recording. This was recorded by Decca in their glory days.The dynamic range, frequency range, soundstaging, capture of the hall sound, can (and does) put many a modern recording to shame. The breathing sounds and creaking stage boards only cement the performance. If you want to know how good your system is, can you hear the tube trains passing underneath and the birds outside. For many including myself this is and will always be a definitive/landmark recording/performance.

I listened to this album during a long car journey to Manchester for a Tori Amos concert. Although I have heard G4 on some T.V. shows, I have never been a huge fan. But upon listening to this album, I felt that I had to write a review, as I was so surprised by how much I enjoyed listening to them for more than just one songs length. I think the lure of this album is that they have included traditional classical pieces aswell as a selection of more contemporary tracks. Definitely one of the best tracks is their rendition of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody". Perhaps less well known is their version of Radiohead's "Creep", which also is a standout track here. What a class act this man is! a fantastic kalaidascopic cornacopia of a rollercoaster into the smoky realms of Jazztopia! with a cherry on top! I recommend this cd to everyone who has yet to worship at altar of Acker in the church of Bilk!. What people also don't realise is that Acker is also a greco roman wrestling champion at several different weights but gave up to concentrate solely on music, for that we should be gratefull my friends! also a special mention to Chris Barton who plays baritone on several of these tracks and is a very underated musician in his own right. If you like Acker I recommend you try Chris Barton's album " When Sally met Chris, the Stable sessions ". A modern jazz classic!
