Congratulations to Naxos for compiling this fine CD. The genre of romantic film music is admirably represented here in works from the 1940s and 50s, and gets first-rate performances and commitment from Fowke and the RTE Orchestra conducted by Ó Duinn.

I remember the glee with which I received this recording when it was first released on LP. I had already heard John Tilbury play the work at Ronnie Scott's Club in Soho, so knew what a master he was of these 20th century reflections of the classic Scarlatti sonata structure. The transfer is very good. The sound much clearer than that on the LP. The timbres are very well captured and with Tilbury, the tuning of the preparations is so much more enticing than on some recordings where the ruler has been the determining factor in the placing of the mutes. He takes Cage's measurements as his guide, but his ears are the final arbiters.

The one minor annoyance is that the track division error which characterized the original appearance ... Read More:

I don't think this series of three discs by Mitsuko Uchida and the ECO can be bettered. I have enthused about her Complete Mozart Piano Sonatas and the Concerti are just as good. Uchida has a real empathy with Mozart, I think, and you get the sense of love and joy in the music combined with magnificent musicianship.

She is crisp and sensitive in the quicker outer movements and has the power when needed to play as the orchestra's equal. In the slow movements Uchida's beautiful tone is a joy and she judges the mood perfectly, making them truly beautiful without a hint of sentimentality or Mozartkugel-flavoured kitsch. This is not easy in such over-exposed movements as the Andante of K467, for example, but she is absolutely exemplary ... Read More:

This is some of the most lovely music I've ever listened to. The melodies are wonderful and the recording is brilliant.

It has moments of great depth and seriousness and others of great lightness and fun, theres much drama and entertainment value as well as inspiration.

The harp pieces are just so much pleasure to listen to, I'm a great lover of the harp and after listening to this Cd I appreciate it in a new way which is quite something.

Some of these pieces are so charming and memorable they really stimulate the imagination.

I'm by no means an expert in classical music so I wont go out of my depth but I just wanted to add another recommendation for this album. Of course its probably not perfect ... Read More:

I am indebted to Classic FM for introducing me to this CD. The oboe is often a poor relation to the clarinet, but Nicholas Daniel and the Peterborough String Orchestra show what can be done with it. The playing is both lively and sensitive - Baroque at its best.
