This is one of my favourite Pink Floyd albums, still sounding as good as it did in the long summer of 1970 when it was released. It captures the positive and experimental aspects of the sixties Floyd before they found fame and fortune with Dark Side Of The Moon and became increasingly gloomy and angst driven. The first track is their longest single suite with added brass, cello and choir orchestrated by Ron Geesin. This is followed by three songs, 'If' is an acoustic number by Waters,'Summer 68' is a funky tune by Wright and 'Fat Old Sun' has a great guitar solo at the end by Gilmour. The album finishes with a long soundscape full of Floydian sound effects in 'Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast' which makes for ideal listening on headphones with ... Read More:

I bought this album when it came out, on vinyl. Neil Young had been only partly known to me - i tended to think "acoustic" and "folky", which were not the kind of words i was into at that age. John Peel said that "nothing before had prepared him for the magnificence of Zuma" or words to that effect. As a keen JP listener and admirer, i thought I'd give it a go. Fabulous! It was as rock-y and discordant in places as you could wish. The guitaring was a revelation. Great songs, love-it-or-hate-it voice/singing - which i did love. The acoustic numbers and gentler tracks were great songs too, and perfect to sing when you were having a drink with your mates. "I've been looking for a lover, but I haven't met her yet - she'll be nothing like i picture her ... Read More:

The woman in our local corner shop often has her Rod Stewart T-shirts on.
"Have you got the Jeff Beck albums yet?" I ask.
She smiles benignly as if to say; "Idiot! What would my Roddy be doing on a Jeff Beck album, I do wish he'd stop asking me that!"
Jeff Beck's first album after leaving The Yardbirds, and after enjoying (?) 2 or 3 chart singles on which HE took the lead vocals this album was an absolute blessing to hear; this was what we expected from a band fronted by him! And yes, regardless of my disbelieveing corner shop lady, her Roddy sings on all the original album tracks, and makes an especially fine job on every one of them, and would surprise quite a few of those disbeliever's in the process with 'Ol Man River' for starters. ... [One CD, with a running time of 78:22] This collection of Moody Blues hits would better be called, "The Moody Blues Through The Years." The songs run from their early Go Now (1964), through I Know You're Out There Somewhere (1988). Along the way, we get the touching Isn't Life Strange, the haunting Forever Autumn, the radiant The Voice, and many other great songs.

My one and only complaint is that Nights In White Satin is included without Graeme Edge's spellbinding poem Late Lament. I have always found that poem to be a fantastic epilogue to the song. But that's such a minor complaint. This is a great CD, and well worth the money.

By the way, the sleeve includes a one or two-sentence story of each song, and a conversation between John Reed and Justin ... Read More:

Bought this recently and it takes me right back to the early 70's when it was a 'must buy' album. It's been on my 'must get the CD' list for some time and on listening to it for the first time in almost 40 years, I'm still moved and amazed by it. As others have rightly said, it's a classic album, so there is no way I'm going to individually review each track - suffice to say that each is a gem in it's own right. On S and G, it's hard to describe just how unique Art Garfunkels voice is or how poignant Paul Simon's lyrics are, just play it, sing along and let your mind go back to those heady days!

One of my best friends played this to me when it came out. I was a "prog rock" fan at the time, and considered his obsession with Dylan as rather quaint & vaguely hippy. At first I couldn't get my head around it - and Idiot Wind both intrigued & irritated.

A couple of years later I went to Blackbush to see the old boy perform in a field - and the stand outs all came from this album. So I revisited it - and found out that I'd grown up!

Over 30 years later I never get tired of it. The first side (of the old LP) is unsurpassed, the second side is pretty nearly as good - my favourites change all of the time. This is my No 1 album of all.

Quite awesome - less than a fiver? If you've not got it - then buy it. You can't possibly be disappointed.

It has been difficult for some time to buy a Kinks compilation that truely represents how good a band they were.

For me, this collection does just that. The real advantage is the second disk which I, contrary to the previous reviewer, think is the main reason for buying this cd above any of the other alternatives.

In particular, the tracks David Watts, Dandy, Mr Pleasant, Where Have all the Good Times Gone?, Well Respected Man, Starstruck and Shangri La are all fantastic songs. Shangri La in particular is an overlooked gem.

If you are speculating whether to get a Kinks cd or not, then this should really be the place to make your first stop.
