Originally released in 1968 The Village Green Preservation Society is now seen as The Kinks finest individual release. In retrospect it's easy to see why it sold so poorly as its cosy nostalgic songs were well out of place in a time when rock was just beginning to get heavy. It's only with the passing of time than one can admire the albums brilliance.

The album is all Ray Davies originals and the themes of the songs are sepia toned to a time which probably never existed, but should have. What really makes the album work is the punchy production, which is at once rhythmic and melodic, and prevents the atmosphere from being twee. The subject matter of the tracks tell stories of lost childhood friends ('Do You Remember Walter?'), ... Read More:

I am 17 year old and i'm a massive fan of heavy metal, I love most types of music from Heavy Metal to Blues to abit of Indie to Instrumental rock and all types of rock from 60s 70s and 80s. 2 of my friends who have similar taste in music as me really like Eric Clapton so I checked his greatest hits and that was brilliant. Then I decided to start my Cream selection and bought this and i love it.

This awesome rock/blues album was made famous by the song Sunshine Of Your Love, which is a brilliant song but there is more to this album then that song. The best song for me here is World Of Pain it's amazing and the vocals on this album are brilliant. In conclusion, this album is brilliant and should any music lovers collection whatever music you ... Read More:

for all you young metal fans , who ever wondered, "where did metal come from, when did it begin" well you are now looking at the very first album of heavy metal, some people will tell you, that metal was made by led zepplin, the kinks, jimmy hendrix or other mere hard rock bands of teh 60's but they are wrong. go ahead, listen to a whole lotta love, then listen to the track black sabbath on this cd, and see the difference. this is were metal started, if you dont believe this review then see teh documentary "heavy, teh story of metal"

buy this if you love metal, the production is dated but teh music is timeless

Reviewing a best-selling, immensely popular album over 30 years after it was released is a bit like trying to evaluate Marmite. It's been around for ages, you know that people will always buy it, but everyone either loves it or hates it already, and there's little point trying to change their minds.

For me, Rumours is just about the best album ever made, and 'Go Your Own Way' is my favourite song, my desert island disc, the one that still sends a shiver up my spine and makes me smile and / or cry (or both) every time I hear it. Part of that is down to memories of earlier times evoked by the music (it just sounds like it came from better days, whether it really did or not); part of it is down to a knowledge of the intricate human relationships within the band and the ... In the beginning the way into Dylan was via Peter Paul & Mary, the Turtles, the Byrds and Johnny Cash.
And commercially electric Dylan was just right.
This CD is just a sampler and introduction to the Art of Dylan. If you want more you get the original albums on CD.All but one have been on catalog since CDs began.
My favorite Dylan song is Can you please crawl out your window.
Thus this double CD would only be of interest if there was a booklet with it and its by no means the only one of its kind as the most recent-titled DYLAN and in 3 different editions -comes with a picture book.
Today's Dylan collector needs plenty of money and plenty of room

I bought this album as a teenager in the 70's and never felt it was one of zeps greatest albums compared to Physical Graffiti and vol4 so unfortunately it was the last of the remasters that I bought. Having listened to it a couple of times it has quickly become one of my favourates. Its understated beauty really hit me and touched me particularly "tangerine" and the really beautiful "thats the way". Pity the packaging doesnt reflect the curiosity of the original LP cover. Buy it and enjoy!

Theme Time Radio Hour is one of the most original and enlightening music programmes on the air. It's brilliantly presented by Bob Dylan who plays an eclectic mix of often obscure records all linked by a theme. Dylan's knowledge of American popular music is immense and each programme is peppered with his unique combination of wit and wisdom. So, Chrome Dreams are to be congratulated for issuing this double album containing 52 wonderful tracks of the kind of music to be heard on TTRH. The only thing missing is the man himself but that shouldn't deter anyone from acquiring this marvellous and wide-ranging compilation of great music.

Without Syd Barrett, it's clear Pink Floyd were struggling to find a new direction. They lacked his brilliant songs, though Rick Wright's Remember a day (on which Syd played) is a fair pastiche, and while Dave Gilmour was a fine guitarist even at the time, he lacked Syd's manic edge.

The result is very much a mixed bag. The attempts to carry on in Syd's style, with such songs as Corporal Clegg and See Saw are, at best, nothing special, while the search for a fresh direction with the title track results in a rather long and padded out piece that's either a brave experiment or the sign of a lack of material, depending on your point of view. Better is Set the controls for the heart of the sun, on which you can hear the Floyd they grew to be. The track that usually makes this an essential ... Read More:

What more could you want. I read once that this was the end of all Floyd as we know it. How wrong can you get! As I'm writing this I'm listening to it, and believe me when I tell you this album does not disappoint. Ok, it might not be as good as Dark Side, Wish You Were Here or The Wall, but its in no way a bad record; and its on record where you really get the beauty of it. A cd is still good, but you don't have the raw-ness of the original format they released it to. Anyway the music: admittedly, looking at the lengths, dogs might be a little too long, and have an unnecessarily long bridge, but that's what Floyd are all about. Dogs just goes to show what a writing partnership of Gilmour/Waters can produce. And this being the only song on the album not written entirely by Waters, it also features ... Read More:
